i just got a VT for my 1st car and i would like to improve my performance with out spending to much, does anyone have any ideas??
cheers guys,
If you live in the city and don't drive on highways or in 100/110 zones much diff gears are by far the best go fast for your dollar anyone can do in a street car. Even more true than normal in heavy cars with smallish motors (for the size of the car) like VT V6's
Hey Mate
If you do alot of 100km/h driving like said above, i wouldnt change the diff gears, just get the basic bolt ons 2 1/2" cat back exaust, Extractors, Ratio Rockers, and a Induction kit.
How much did you want to spend on mods mate ???
Obviously, the more you spend the more you get. Diff gears, extractors, CAI, good exhaust and a cam are a good start. $2500-$3000.
If your VT has the standard 3.07/3.08 you can goto a 3.45 LSD diff with no worries. It only bumps the RPM up about 200 or so.
I changed to 3.45 in my VT 5L Auto and do atleast 600km a week in 110km/h zones. Fuel useage went from 9.8L/100 to about 10.2l/100 other than that its perfectly fine.
I have recently put a 3.45 LSD in my VX V6, and it now revs at aroung 2050-2010 at 100km/h, not much of a dent in the fuel bill.
But the best part is being able to take 90 degree corners from a standstill at full acceleration without any loss of traction (honestly, traction control doesn't engage) though i do have 235/40/18's on my car, so that would help too.

You sure no traction control? I know its a different model but if i try to take a 90 degree turn full throttle from standstill i get this strange smell like burning rubber :-p with a fresh lsd and 245 width tyres. Lsd does make a vast improvement though :-) i have no doubt the best value mod you can get is lsd and diff gears.

Yeah, if i take off full throttle full stop i get rubber burning smell....
If i take off into a 90degree turn the inner wheel chirps... then i put my foot on the throttle n 180
im so suprised that none of those comments were "sell your car and buy one with a ls1 in it". damn thats annoying.
Bah insurance. Im paying more to insure my 4 cylinder Liberty than I was to insure my old VS V6. Have a play around on Just Car or another insurers quote service, there is no real difference insuring a V8 to a V6.
As for fuel economy, when driven properly the LS1 and onwards V8's can return just as good fuel economy as the Ecotec V6. It comes down to how you drive and at the end of the day its only going to be $5-$10 a week anyway.
The worst thing I ever did regarding my car, was buy a V6 instead of a V8.
G'day all. Just joined up bout 10 minutes ago and thought i would say hello. I just bought my self a Series 2 Manual VT executive. 70,000kms on the clock and drives like a charm. Have been looking at getting a set of 1.97HYB rockers from FIT and new pushrods with a CAI. Any thoughts on this guys? Also being an executive that i bought from a 60years old guy in the country is just got the single spinner. What are some prices on a tight LSD? Hope to hear from u and look forward to finding out some tips.
Cheers Nick. South Aust
Yeah... get some YT 1.95:1 RR instead... cost less... superior product, pushrods included.
The FIT rockers are re-manufactured from change over parts.... they are more expensive that the equivalent YT product and you have to dish out another 120 bux or so for the push rods.
Yella Terra ROLLER rockers are brand new and not re-manufactured. They have a Roller Tip on them to reduce friction and the pushrods come included...
So for less money you get a superior product, all the bits you need and the difference between 1.95:1 and 1.97:1 would MAYBE be a whole lot of 1rwkw extra on a dyno...
Thats my 2 cents anyway...
Good luck with it!
If you want some more info on the Yella Terra roller rockers jst PM me or sumfin. I put some in my car awhile back n they are superb!
Boss Differentials @ Lonsdale did mine for $1500. I'd imagine prices have gone up a little since then.
New Bearings, New LSD Centre, New 3.45 gears etc.
They have a new site now by the looks of it here
Hey, have a look in the VT VX rides section under manual vt series 2
