Question 3rd to 2nd gear shift

Hey i could be wrong but i think the vx commodores that had a police pack on them allowed you to shift down from 3rd to 2nd without pressing the gear shift button, ready for a quick chase! Is it possible to change this on a stock commodore so you don't have to press the button? it just gets a bit annoying when you want to quickly shift it into 2nd

    Hey

Im not 100% sure, havent driven an auto since i got my L's, though i dont think you need to press the button when shifting up or down, with the gears.

Also i think it stuff's up the transmission, when shifting down gears, just leave it in D to do it, well thats what i would be doing if i had an auto car

Take out your console and have a look on the selector part and it has about three notches just file down the one that goes from third to second so you can change down without pressing the button .
there are three types of people in the world , those who can count and those who can't

Why would anyone want to deliberately damage their transmission.

If you want to drive it like its a manual, then buy one.

Exactly why would you want to be changing to second on a stock auto anyway?

Hint: Automatics change gears by themselves

na, i no what he means, my gearbox is getting old and wen you goin up a hill and the thing wont kick down to give the power you gotta use the stick... i wouldnt change it from stock but if you really want to like DAYVO said you can do it that way by fileing that part down, my mate did it on his before he sold it...

It's not hard to press the button if you must change gear.

Im not saying it's hard to press down, it would just be a lot smoother not to have to do it. As Batemada said, its handy when you want to overtake in a hurry. The auto box isn't that responsive when you put your foot down and usually its quicker if you change to the gear you want yourself. To answer ProphetVX, have you ever tried looking for a manual vx commodore sedan thats not a ute or a v8? I think you will find they are pretty hard to find

If you're prepared to pay the premium for the manual, they're not hard to find.

Jump on Carsales or any other classifieds and filter the searches by manual Commodore 6's.

Forcing 2nd shouldn't damage anything if you are accelerating, It's only when you start using it to slow the car down you start doing any damage.

Also, being able to go from 3 to 2 without pushing/pulling the shift button/lever is much better than puling the lever in a hurry and accidently jamming it all the way down to first, (ouch, instantly way into redline)

Yes I have, and I found numerous ones before actually deciding to go with a berlina (and putting up with auto) for my last car.

But anyway, that wasn't the point of my post. Just be weary that if you feel the need to drive your auto like its a manual, you're shortening the lifespan of your transmission immensely.

    HAHAHA
You guys do realise that to make it shift down all you need to do is give it a bit more juice....Absolutely NO need EVER to use the auto gear lever unless you want it to hold back gears.

Umm what car are you driving? the computer will change the gears up even if you have the T bar in 2nd or and your are attempting to redline it. To prevent engine damage.

How do you manage that? Have you modified the car in any way for it to do that ie shift kit?

Its only the electronic auto's that change up by themselves. VN/VP with hydraulic auto's will hold the gears.
