I am about to give my white VT a polish, and are wondering what you blokes have found to be the best brand polish to use with the best long lasting results. I have used 'Turtle Wax Platinum Ultra Gloss' with reasonable success but is there any other brand better?
Pablo
i use Nu-Finish on my VT. it works a treat. i do it every 30days as the car is kept outside (which sucks) but it keeps it looking "Nu"
no longer a hoon by association - the commodore is gone
I really like 3M, but I have also used Meguire's and that works really well to.
i have to use turtle colour revive polish stuff so my vp dont look so faded lol

I should make it clear that if you only 'polish' the car there will be no protection from the elements. Make sure you always finish with a wax or sealant to lock in the shine. Otherwise your hard work doing the polish will go to waste once the car gets wet. Also when you say you want to polish, do you want to use a cleaner/polish, a pure polish or if the paint is really bad it might need a buffing compound done by machine.
Car theives should be treated just like horse theives and cattle rustlers in the days of the wild west... Hang them!

Right-o Scooter, paint is pretty good, just want to bring up that 'new look' again, also want to protect from fast deteriation from the summer sun.

I like them that leave the wet look, Just like the tyre shine i have it looks wet all the time.

The polishing step isn't always needed. Particularly on light colours like white and silver. If you've got a paint in pretty good condition (such as no noticable swirls) then you can get away with a wash, clay, wax/sealant. I did a job on a 2004 silver Barina. Paint was dull due to surface contaminants but because silver didn't really show any swirls or scratches I gave it a quick once over with some 3M clay and a sealant and look like it came off the showroom floor. A two and a half hour job total plus interior. A word on Meguiar (step 3) Carnauba Wax. It looks good but it's durability is terrible. Only seems to last about 2 or 3 washes.
As I said above if your car is white then you may be able to skip the polishing step provided it is in good condition. White cars always come up whiter and brighter after going over with a clay bar. Follow that with a good quality wax/sealant. While I've never used turtle wax, I have heard good things about their Ultra Gloss product. If you're happy with it then keep using it. When waxing, apply a second coat after buffing off the first. This will help durability also. If you car is exposed to the elements all the time then I'd recommend a polymer or synthetic 'sealant' rather than a wax. Generally a sealant is longer lasting. In between washes use a spray on wax like Meguiars Quik Wax or Duragloss Aquxwax is fantastic. A spray wax should only add 5 or 10 minutes to the washing process. This will act as a booster to prolong protection between full on waxing. I guess it all comes down to your budget and time you have available.

I use Glare polish & Sealer it is the ducks guts it is the same as Ming treatment. read their site it gives you some info on it. It is a bit on the expensive side but the results stand for themself.
Infinity Auto Protection - for all Cars, Boats and Planes
I can recomend the Turtle "Classic" range of products.
scratch and swirl remover if required, then the super hard shell turtle wax.
Back to basics, with out the advertising hype......
Just a follow up, tried Meguires Nxt Gen Tech paste, cost $43 on special from Auto Barn.
Looks pretty schmick to me. Quite impressed. Only now to see how long it lasts.

So let me get this right...
You first wash... (Do you have to dry the car??)
Then you polish.. (optional)
Then clay bar the whole car..
Then wax last..
So is this the right order?? What about the swirl remover?? What order that comes in?? My car badly needs the swirl remover anyway.
Thinking of doing this weekend.
A lot of people swear by the Glare, and a couple of other similar formulations (zaino?), all about $250 for the kit. Apart from trying to justify the cash for a sealant and cleaner (its not too bad really, just hard to spend $250 on the both) I really didnt like the guy selling the Glare. Just everything was too hard when i was trying to ask questions.
Ok after a couple of years on this forum, I'm finally going to ask one of those "what is" questions.
Here we go,
What is clay bar...???
I honestly don't have a clue what the hell this is! I mean I've got a picture of a lump of clay from down the creek in my head sitting in the middle of my bonnet!![]()
It's a special clay (not just the stuff from a creek bed) that quickly and easily removes surface contaminations such as bugs, tar, tree sap, brake dust, paint overspray etc which helps to restore a smooth feel to your cars paint work and make it shine. You can buy the Meguiar's kit from most automotive stores for around the $30 mark, however after using the 3M stuff I will never use the Meguiar's stuff again but the 3M stuff can be hard to find.
1Wash and dry;
2Clay bar;
3Swirl remover
4Polish (if needed)
5wax/sealant.
Some swirl removers contain super fine abbrassive and some contain harsher abbrassives. Some swirl removers will leave a slight haze or dullness to the paint which will require a polish afterwards. Then again some swirl removers also act as a polish once the abbrassives have broken down. In this case you might be able to skip the 'polish' stage and go straight to a wax.
