was looking at upgrading my car. had 2 options.
vtclubsport 5ltr 195i-170ks on the clock.-manual
vx ss-5.7 140 ks on the clock.-auto.
clubsports, manual, hsv badge, is exclusive.
vx ss lower kays ls1 engine-auto.
pros and cons please?have trouble deciding whicjh i want. any reviews on boty these models?cheers.

Go the ls1 mate, I would jump straight for the vx ss. Though the vt clubby is more of a looker than the vx ss in my impinion. Though power over looksheaps more potential in the vx ss.
If you are more concerned on performance - then the VX is for you.
Hmmmm... u need a third option... VX clubby 6 speed
Personally i wouldnt go auto, because of the shear boringness of it.
But the LS1 is a lot quicker and has a lot more potential with less of a budget.
Ultimatly up to u... its a tuffy... i wouldnt go auto though.... but i wouldnt be that keen on a 5ltr in a VT
I would personally go for the VX, because im not a real fan of VT 5 liters even if they are HSV manuals.
am not looking to modify for power or anything.i come fromthe world of mobikes. have had 3 gsxr1000s in the last 2 years-clocked over 75k kms in 2 years.
this is going to be my second car. so will upgrade in a year or two after this to a much later model.-would like a monaro next.
till then
what i want to know is any gremlins in the vx?/is it much sought after.
the clubbie how good is it?its HSV thats part of the appeal for me +looks

I would not buy a Series 1 VT HSV. Go the VX SS, how much are you looking to spend?

haha, mate once you step into any nice holden v8 the modification bug will biteIn terms of bang for your buck you cant go past the vx although the vt 5 litre has a beautiful note and with the sequential injection the old 5litre has a fair bit of poke over previous models too! but if your looking to upgrade shortly in the future then i would be looking @ what holds better value for resale or trade in! As for gremlins in the vx, im not sure but i think that the ls1 in the vt/vx models, some had to go back to holden as they had the piston slap problem, and/or excessive oil consumption (anyone confirm?) some dont like the traction control and therefore turn it off, but overall from what ive heard the vt/vx are both very well sorted cars, so either way its up to you, personally i would take the vx ss anyday of the week
mainly because its a newer car and the ls1 is a beautiful engine
and in the future when my old vs calais is in need of a turn over i will be going for a vx ss or clubby

yeah like overs have said mate, i would go for the VX SS, though its up to you, take both for a spin, see which one you prefer to drive etc, then decide...
I go for the VX SS - I would love it - easy upgrade from my VX S ( manual if possible )
willdo a test drive on both.cars are not fast for me.they are gr8 fer crusin around ,with music, exhaust pipes note etc. more poser value.chick magnet sort of thing. speed = mobikes. when u used to 0-100 in less than 3 secs cars cant touch that. but i aloso o not take chiks on bikes.its knee draggin on public roads etc.
looks matter+driving involvement. manual trans is what am used to too.
but both the vx and clubbie are red and look col. hence the dilemma. maybe the vx.ls1 engine.like trac control too. spun my vr calaIS, too hot into the corner on a wet road hit a tree and went down the embankment ,luckily stopped by fence otherwise would ave rolled 100mts down. just right panel over front wheel smashed by tree otherwise not a scratch. the rear bumper had a dent but it came out by itself. hence the car change.car drives beautifully even now. need a red calaIS panel for replacement.

For arguments sake, if you ever decided on mods you are best to go the LS1 route. You can easily do mid 12's unopened for little money spent. You'd need to spend alot more on the 5 litre. That being said, the VX looks really nice sitting on 19's and lowered with Tints. Is it a Series 2 VX or a series 1?

having had a 5.0L i would jump at the 5.7 ss over the vt clubby even though i prefer the looks of a vt over a vx
year 2000 vx.auto. what worries me is i read somewhere bout oilconsumption being in the range of 2 lts or something every 10,000 kms. just wish the vx was a 6 manual.
98vt clubbie is series1 too i suppose.but its manual and has 30k s more than the vx.
vx has a sunroof too i think.

the clubbie around $15/vx-$ 16-17

go with the vt cluby, they r a beutiful car!leather interia mint seats nice an comfortable, better resale value, and sounds tuff azz!!it will be a sort after car later on down the track,vx wont b worth much later....and auto's r for chicks,i have a manual vt clubby with 100 k on the clock an i love it 2 bits!!
As minux said, I wouldnt go for a series one VT... if it was a series 2, i'd struggle to decide, but for me its an easy one, go for the VX, they look great, its got an LS1, its at very least 3 years newer, and about 30,000ks less on the clock
If you only want it for the cruise and chick magnet and exhaust note then your really going to have to consider the VT despite the VX having a motor with much more potential
I have owned a VT series II SS with a gen 3 and it was a quick car but i now own a series 1 HSV clubsport 5.0L ( 114,000 k's) and although it isn't as quick it turns heads everywhere i go.Plus it has the extra HSV stuff like leather Colson Seats, lowered ride height, sunroof etc = Chick Magnet....
I also believe that you will get better resale value from the clubbie........ Just my opinion however....
this post just got restarted from a years silence, I believe opinions are a bit belated as his profile suggests he stuck with the vr calais

massive thread revival....would of gone the vx ss over the vt, vt's are ugly

My VS CLUBBY!

Go the clubbie even though i love the VX much more the clubbie has more re sale value and the last of the VT 5 ltrs mostly 98 models, the 5ltr engine had extras parts put in them to get rid of the extra 5ltr parts before the LS1 came in. This was told to my mate when he bought his VT SS at a Holden Dealership in geelong, so good luck
