Default VT missfires only at 80k.

My VT 6 wagon missfires when it gets to 80k even under slight load.It doesn't do it at any other speed.Anyone have any ideas?

Plugs or leads, most likely a bad lead.

Bad lead. I had exactly the same problem a few weeks ago.

Have new plugs and leads -not GMH but top quality. I agree, could still be a lead though.

The computer doesnt read anything wrong.Just wondering if it could be an EGR valve, oygen sensor or even a fuel pump. Can these be ruled out?
The VT has 170,000k's on it.

You can rule out those three items.

Check the new plugs to ensure that you haven't damaged one. I found this out the hard way by cracking several plugs by over tightening them.

As stated ^, most likely an ignition lead or plug, however, that doesnt mean it couldnt be a lot of other things.

Typically there is more chance of a miss when you have the car underload at relatively low rpm as more voltage is needed to jump the spark gap......a dodgy lead or plug may leak the spark at this higher voltage.

Is it an auto or manual, what rpm are you doing at 80km/h. Whatever rpm that is try the car at that rpm in the other forward gears under varying load to try and simulate the fault, one would expect if a lead or plug is the problem that you would be able to simulate the prob at the same engine load at different speeds.

a good test for pesky leads is to check under the hood while the engine is running in the dark. You just might be able to see small arcing around where a lead is leaking current.
