Here are some pics of mine. I have a pod in sealed enclosure I made, but you can do the same with the standard air box.

standard CAI on a V6, take it off and you'll see a hole in the radiator cover that's in front of the radiator. Cut a hole in the standard CAI to match that hole. I believe Berlina's and VY onwards had this hole as standard.
Also, you can take the standard air box out and cut a hole in the opposit corner as the standard CAI. This will open the box up to behind the left headlight. Install a high flow air filter (K&N are really good from my experience) and you've got a CAI that's better than standard, cheaper than after market and provides better induction and sound. It all looks standard (because it is) and you can't see the holes or they look clean and standard.

Sorry for the delay.....Here are the pics
Pic 1: Top view looking down into the grill cavity.
Pic 2: View of the air intake with the enlarged hole in the front and the hole cut in the bottom.
Pic 3: Bottom view of the air intake with the hole cut in it.
Pic 4: Top view of the new air scoop pop riveted to the radiator shroud, the scoop has been curved outward to aid the flow up into the hole. Remember resistance in the air flow heats the air so nice rounded curve to minimize the resistance.
Pic 5: View through the front grill into the cavity, notice the bottom of the new scoop to catch the air and force it up into the hole. Also notice i haven't gone to low so as to keep air flowing through the radiator. The scoop is made from plastic but on my brothers we used aluminum, suggest using the aluminum.
Pic 6: Top view of the scoop pop riveted to the radiator shroud.
Pic 7: Front view of the scoop riveted to the radiator shroud.
Pic 8: A blury picture of the finished product
Just a few points to note:
1) When enlarging the hole on the front of the air intake don't go back too far as you need overhang to catch the air coming up from the grill cavity.
The air forced up via the new scoop from the grill cavity is sucked through from the air coming in under the bonnet whilst passing over the top of the bottom hole in the air intake.
2) Us a high flow panel filter, i use a washable Air Hog filter i purchased from Supercheap for $50.
3) You do not need to enlarge the front hole on the air intake for the VX on, they are big enough. Not sure about VT II, i have only done this for a 98 VT and VX.
4) You will get a nice sucking sound on idle and a even nicer growl on acceleration.
5) Most importantly you will get a definite performance improvement
Tools used: Tin Snips, Drill, File & Pop Riveter.
Difficulty Level: Easy
Cost: $10 max - My 98 VT, the one in the pictures cost me nothing but my time.

Cutting a hole in the bottom of your air intake like shown above wont allow the cai pipe to flow more air as most air will still rush in from the main entry. In fact, at idle hot air will rise up through that cut out from your radiator. Not good.
Instead, cut the opening of your CAI intake up to the 2nd ridge and widen the opening a touch too. The VT2 and VX had the opening increased up to the 1st ridge to improve airflow at the factory. Take it further to the 2nd ridge as it straightens out the path the air must flow which will allow air to flow more freely into the airbox.
