Default wanted more poke for a VT SS!

Hi all,

Im new to this place (please be kind);

I’m researching the best mod for my mates VT SS manual commo.

He already has HPC coated Pacemaker extractors and high flow exhaust (inc cats) and he is looking for better induction than the OEM setup, thus a mod to give him more poke and Kw so that he can leave my mildly worked Mazda 3 SP23 behind in the dust... i’m keeping up with him atm (2.3L VS 5.7L)!!

I have been tasked with the job of with finding and buying the kit for him (using his CC)

Ive read allot posts on here about pods and pannel filters good vs bad etc

I was thinking of getting him a lukey panel filter (as it’s not an oiled filter) and the over radiator CAI set up from places like repco for about $400ish all up. what do you think?

But on the other hand there are items like the K&N CAI like so..

good for my 4 banger but not sure for the LS1.

I think his budget is about $400 which puts Marranos Enhancement Division - Marranos Performance Specialists OTRCAI out of the question at $620 for their cai set up and $70 for fitting and dyno before and after.

another option ive read about has been the monaro cai...corect me if im wrong this in the air intake set up out of a monaro? (not a brand?) so if i source a monaro intake setup and high flow pannel filter he will get more poke?

We live in Sydney thus would like to get it locally (if possible)

Any suggestions....

thanks
Andy

The ORCAI is expensive but definetaly worth it, I know a few people with it and they recomend it. If he gets any sort of cai he would want to get a tune for it as well to get the most out of it.

If it was me I would get a diff gear change, too some 3.9's or 4.11's, have a look into it they make a huge difference.

Whats the point of an OTR setup if your running untuned? Its even more wasted money. 3.9's are worth it, but again, no point unless you start with a tune.

Personally, I'd pay for him to get driving lessons.

LOL, yeah I was sort of thinking the same thing. I know 4's can be quick, but seriously try a run with you in his car and him in yours. Well a couple of runs.

Then you might get different results.

Also how mildly worked is your mazda?

lol i've had a play with a couple of those and i agree with minux, the bloke needs to learn how to drive....if a pretty stock 5L (heavy assed calais)can keep in front of them im sure a 5.7 would do it no worries....

I reckon the full exhaust, CAI (SS inductions or ORCAI) and a nice tune will giv your car the poke without draining alot of money!

don't even contemplate the ss reductions intake. mail-order tune + otrcai + decent flowing exhaust & diff gears if the budget will stretch that far

please clarify what is a mail-order tune?

and a mafless tune i assume is getting the tuned to run with out the MAF sensor? is this hard or costly?

My Wog box mazda engine mods inc
high flow exhaust
high flow cat
extractors
advanced timing
cai
pollished head
larger tb
other bits inc cf hood, light wheels.
and new intake and haltach piggy back on the way

toying with getting a modded mps3 (~220fwkw)

a mail order tune is a basic tune that alters fuel, ignition & timing to gain more power and torque. tuners have developed thier own versions of the 1 base tune and can apply it too all who want it in as quick as 10 mins by re-flashing the engine cpu. it is different from a custom tune as this is tuned for each vehicle on a dyno to have it 100% accurate and will include trans shift points & abuse modes etc.

when tuned you can simply dis-connect the maf sensor or if you install an otrcai or larger intake pipe it can be removed altogether

brad from Enhanced Automotive has a deal going this weekend - mail order tunes for $300 and this from personal experience is a killer tune. i believe he has posted details of this in the sponsors section

click this link for more details

$300 Mafless Mailorder Special

hope that helps you out some
