i assume your talking about a "red back" exhaust. it will just make the note a bit more noticeable, a bit louder and deeper depending on what system you go with. I have 2 mufflers (i behind the cat and 1 behind the rear diff, this muffler behind the rear diff is also know as a resinator) And my note is not over the top loud but its nice and deep for a v6. When i put by foot down i can hear the note and its bubbles and pops when downshifting. You dont need extractors but they will increase the smoothness of your cars torque. i dont have them on my car as they seem a bit pointless for the money you spend $500 $700 depending on brand. Just call into an exhaust shop and as them about the systems. also if your car has 2 mufflers as standard then to keep it legal you will need to have 2 mufflers on your aftermarket system. if it has 1 you only need 1 etc. the cat back will cost around $350 + the tip fitted

Ok...
"Redback" is the brand of exhaust...
"Catback" is en exhaust system that goes from your cats to the tail pipe.
If your just looking for a catback exhaust then you will get a different tone but no gains.
If you want performance gains you need to change your headers or extractors to something that flows abit better and combined with a catback you will see minor improvements in fuel economy and acceleration.
For a nice sound, i had a redback catback 2.5inch exhaust with one muffler and a hotdog on the back (about 450 odd installed but you should shop around)
The headers will cost you abit... pacemakers are a popular and common brand while i went for HM Headers as part of a group buy (Good ya to get a bargain).
Hope this helps abit and good luck...

Redback is a good entry level cat back system. It is actually quite easy to fit it your sejf if you have access to some jack stands or ramps. They can be had for $250ish off ebay but an exhaust place will try and hit you for $600+ in my experience. What state r you in? I know of a few places in VIC that are good and well priced.
Headers are always better with a cat back but if you just want to give it a note the cat back is a good way to start.
There is no use in going a full system until you increase the intake flow as well.

if you going to get the exhaust done do the hole lot from extractors to the tip.I had a 99 vt for my last car and had extractors high flow cat with the red back exhaust and a hotdog right at the tip just before the crome tip and s*** it was loud for a six and when you reved it you would think it was a hot 8 but ramember about the cops they here you comming they will be right on ya every time if not defect ya so you would probly be better to do from the cats back and don,t pay more than 600. i paid that for my ss with twin mufflers and pipes with crome tips and a couple other things fixed up on the exhaust

Where in victoria is a good place to get a 2.5 inch system fitted ? (cat back)
I was thinking, 2.5 inch pipe without the rear resonator. that why i guess if its to loud i can put a resonator on it.
Sound about right?

any exhaust shop will be fine mate, profix etc. have a chat with them about what sort of sound you are after, ie deep, loud etc. a 2.5 without a resinator will be nice and loud without being over the top. i have centre muffler with a rear resinator and its loud enough for me, when i drop it back a gear and get the rev up to 5000 its really nice but its no drone at 60km in 5th gear just cruising
