Vx sII s-pak Diff whining

Hey guys, looking for some help with my brother's diff.

All is standard and it's done 113,000k's.

The diff has been whining for about a year or so and now the pinion seal has carked it.

What causes the diff to whine?
Is it stuffed?
Can anyone recommend a shop around the eastern subs of vic to take it to?

Any help would be much appreciated.....

pinion bearings are a common failure for commodore diff, you will need a press to replace them, less than 100 bucks in parts, you will inner and outer bearings, oil seal, collapsible spacer, and new oil, may i suggest that you have it filled with castrol saf-xa, its dear but its worth every pennie for the way it dulls out slight clunks, shunts etc,

is the noise a constant whiring from standstill to speed?

it is a constant whirring, the whirring/whining sound almost has a pulse to it which increases with speed, it's very dull and can hardly be heard at standstill or with your foot off the accelerator.

yep appears to be pinnion bearings, but try, 'on a free open road' swerving from side to side, if the sound dulls on one side of the swerve the wheel bearing is shot on the other wheel
