Default VT/VX Auto - button on shifter???

Hey All.

OK, I don't want to just keep pulling at it in case I break something. How the hell do we remove the button from the top of the Auto shifter?? I need to remove the plastic cover from the housing, and therefore need to take the knob and button from the stick first. I removed the screw holding the knob to the stick, but had trouble when it came time to slide it all up and remove it from the lever.

Can someone point me in the right direction? Thanx!!
