VT Temp Problem
My wife was driving the VT today when the temp skyrocketed and she got the hot message on the panel then it dropped quickly aswell. Later in the day i took it for a drive and it gradually climbed to about 3/4 on the gauge. After about 30 mins i went for another spin and within 3 minutes it shot straight up to hot then went to normal range within 5-10 seconds when i got home maybe 2 minutes later i felt the radiator etc and it was not hot at all so i carefully took the radiator cap off and it wasnt hot at all??? any ideas????

bleed ur system, probably air in the system, if that dosent help, take it for a 5 min drive to get it to operating temp, then turn on the heater, which should open the thermostat manually. If driving with the heating on and thermostat open fixxes it replace ur thermostat.

Perhaps a faulty coolant temperature sensor.

If the radiator is cool after it over heats chances are that the thermostst isn't opening. Very easy to change.

when it gets hot check the waterpump for any leaks you should see it running down the front of your motor
It can be as easy as just your radiator Cap is stuff and losing presser
So check that to

you can test a thermostat by putting it into a pot of water and bringing it to the boil with a thermometer in it. When the temperature gets to around 93 degrees (or whatever temp thermostat it is) the thermostat should open. If it doesn't then replace the thermostat, or just leave it out of the car completely.

My VT did exactly the same, ever morning for a week or so. Took it to Natrad, they flushed it, replaced the thermostat and never happened again!

Coolant Tempurature Sensor - Where?
Have over heating -possible cracked head.
But first I needed to change radiator (big hole), removed termostat, flushed system.
Have noticed fans not cutting in. Tested both fans from relay positions and they work fine. But do not appear to be getting a ON relay to turn fans on.
Is there a temperature sensor I can check and if yes where is it located (VT 89 V6 EFI)?
After this I think its bad luck for my sister, head could be blown.
Any help appreciated,
Phantomwalker
