    Default About to remove this....??

    hi, the hubs on my vt are rusty and look crapola, iv bought some rust remover, primer etc but im not sure how to remove the hub?

    this is going to be a no brainer for someone but im still learning so any help would be good. Im starting on the left rear and this is what im looking at;

    it looks like im going to have to remove the caliper? do i have to crack the bearing to get the hub off? also how easy is it to reposition the caliper after i remove it? any help will be great, thanks

    you need to remove the caliper, and the end cap with the bearing. then the disc comes off

    Make sure your handbrake is off .If that doesn't work you might have to back off the brake shoes

    I'm confused, do you want to paint the rotors or the hub assembly?

    Whilst i can't help with how to get the rotor off, its great to see your setting an example and using Axle Stands.

    Too many times i see people doing work on their car with just a jack under there (sometimes even just a scissor jack)

    Top effort!

    I havn't had one collapse, but scissor jacks don't lift my car high enough to get the wheels off. The first thing i do when i buy a car, is throw the scissor jack in the bin, and throw in my trolley jack.

    i used a scissor jack today and got the wheel about 5mm off the ground and then it threaded the shaft and wouldnt go up or down. so i got the trolley jack out and then did some arm stretches and threw the scissor jack down the road. i made those jack stands last year at uni and got them approved by australian safety standards, they are stamped and in the register

    Hey Nicko, don't forget to use a little 'loctite' on those caliper mounting bolts when you re-fit them!!...don't want them working loose.
