I'm having a lot of trouble with this. At the moment I've just got mounting tape holding it in there, but I want something a little bit more permanent. Anything you guys have used?

What double din unit you got?
from what i know you need to get a cag, should have got one with ur unit, which means you have to mount it on the side of the HU wall, it won't be a perfect fit either, vx HU space is bigger then Double din space.
There's been posteds before about this, check FAQ section for VT - Vx and look under HU section.
JVC KW-XG706
No cage came with it. This is why I'm having so much trouble. I had a look in the FAQ section and all i could really find were people installing single dins with the spacer underneath. I tried to get hold of JVC about a cage for it, but any communication with them has been useless.

Are there any threaded holes in the side of the unit as this was the case with my Kenwood and i just mlined them up on the balck frame of the car and rilled holes and the were pretty close to lining up
But becareful as not to use too longer screw as they go to far into the unit and can tounch item inside like circut boardsd and such
I just drilled 2 holes in the cage to hold mine in place. But on the driver's side it was difficult to try and get the drill into place. I also used the rubber screw thing on the end of the H/U to hold it in place. The factory H/U has this rubber screw thing on it as well.
I wish I took some pics of it but I ended up taking the entire lower half of the dash off
