    Default Removing rear VX springs

Tried chucking some lowered springs in the back of the VX, but can't get the old ones out....how is it done?

First tried with spring compressors but couldn't compress them enuf to go over the bump things in the middle of the spring seats, then tried droppin the shocky, but that didn't drop the diff assembly much at all, which yeah ment it didn't work.

Is there an easy way to get them out or do I gotta buy a special tool or sumfin?

Jack up one side, put a stand under the car.Remove wheel, undo nut on the bottom of the shocker(19mm)from memory. With a slight levering of the lower trailing are the spring will come out.Put what you took off back on and do the other side.Piece of ****.

With the stabilizer bar, it is easier to have the whole rear end off the ground. Less tension on the control arm when levering it down. Sometimes you may have to compress the spring to get it out. Undoing the stabilizer links helps too.

The way I did mine was to take the drive shaft off as well as the shock and the stabilizer bar. Just be careful you don't strech the brake lines in the process. I unclipped mine from the body to allow for some more travel.
I am sure it is the same for sedan and wagon

BTW the driveshaft bolts are a pain to undo. Used the jack handle as an extended leaver

Ok well it seems I'm just not trying hard enuf. We put pressure on the brake hub to try and push it down, but we were worried bout breaking the cv joint or sumfn haha. So pretty much just compress the spring as best as I can, then undo the shocky bolt and force the brake rotor/cv joint down until I get the spring out? Apart from the brake line, can I do any damage from doing this?

I don't wanna remove to much, just incase I stuff sumfin up. If I can't get it by undoing the shocky and forcing the rotor down, I might just pay someone to do it....I'm just really worried bout breaking something expensive haha.

Thx heaps for ur help guys!

So the pressure which is against u when u push down is just the sway bar or sumfin? It isn't nuthin which will break in a hurry?

I dont think anything will break. If you want to undo the sway bar and see iif that helps then go for it.Its not too hard.

When my son done his vx the first time we forgot to release the handbrake xxx. Second time found the spring compressor too long, and had to cut the thread down too 150mm. Once that was done the springs came out, with the help from jimmy bar (thanx jim). You also need to remove the shocks (top or bottom it's up to you), the lowered king springs just fell in. Hope this helps.

Someone already mentioned it but handbrake OFF! lol

You will never get a spring out with the handbrake on.... no unless its like a SSSL.

If you have fe2 springs undoing the shock and having a mate press down on the control arm while you jog the spring out should be enough...

With non fe2 springs you will need a spring compressors for sure... How do you mean you couldn't compress them enough?? Should be EASILY able to compress the spring enough to lift it out nice and easy.

    Good luck with it!

dodgy but easy way... wont break anything, just jack the car up, take the wheel off and put a bottle jack in there so it pushes the lower arm down and the spring will be easy enough to pull out and even easier to get the new ones in...
