I've just upgraded to a VX SS series 2 ex-police with only 82000 full service book and cover by Holden Certified warranty 3yrs/175000Km. I've taken off the shell of the engine and it's a little dirty is it safe to use a high pressure washer on it to clean it? Also it's missing the traction control button it's got that light switch so u can override the door interior lights. Was traction control taken out or is it still there just needs to be hooked up? For an ex-police car it's in excellent condition in and out.
i would'nt use high pressure to clean the engine, just use degreaser & normal hose pressure & just for insurance cover the coil packs & alternater with plastic to keep the moisture out. You don't need traction control, i always turn mine off when i start the car it's just out of habbit now. There must be a good reason why the cop cars don't have it, it might have something to do with the interference it causes during pursuits, maybe someone out there has the real reason behind it's exclusion in the police pack option.![]()
I think it is, no trac, map lights, interior disable lights button. And the if its not a gen SS they did a pretty good job to make it one. It has full SS interior, dash, body kit everything. It has full log books and servicing which match the mileage was originally from Port Melbourne. Under driver's name it says "CVO POOL" if anyone knows what that means. And according to all the holden dealer paper work it's an SS. One the options plate it has "TRIM 81I" However i can't find any wording for the police pack code of 9C1.
my younger brother has a vx series 2 ss with no traction control he brought 18 months ago with 65000 on clock wiring in engine bay is different
they used the ss as hwy patrol cars and pursuit cars, they did this with the vy to.
Chev badges are an instant fail
It may just be a police owned vehicle (like a boss's car or something) and not an actual ex highway patrol car. Especially when its low k's and in good nic. The following is a list of what all 9C1 police packs receive:
All 9C1 pack Commodores have the following above what is on standard Commodores: ABS, FE2 Sports Suspension, LSD, 15" x 7" rims, 225 x 60 R15 tyres, Passenger's Airbag, Sump protector plate, additional Wiring Loom (supplying power for lights siren etc.), modified Transmission Gate (can manually select 2nd gear in auto box without depressing top of gear stick), Interior Dome Light with Incorporated Map Reading lights (as per Calais), Interior Lights Isolation Switch (isolates glovebox light, boot and interior dome and map reading lights), Front brake pads are Bendix Ultimate, Rear Brake Pads are standard "Akibono" made by PBR. A larger higher capacity battery with 450 CCA and 115 min RC. The Speedo has 2 km/h increments marked. Any VT/VX/VY Commodore can have the "Police Mode" digital speed indication feature enabled under the Speedo dial with Tech 2 at a dealership. Takes about 3 minutes. In doing this, the vehicle looses the Speed Alert feature.
9C1 gets 2 horns, the standard 400hz horn plus a more powerful 450hz horn.
Yeah pretty much what i got, except for the wheels mine are std 17 VX SS alloys. It's got sump guard but no guard for the fuel tank. However where on the compliance or safety plate would it indicate as a 9C1? Cause i know on the VS they have BT1 clearly labeled.
It should be on the same spot just 9C1 instead of BT1. It would have to be a police pack so its interesting it doesnt have the 9C1 code. Maybe the SS patrol cars used a different code?
Our VT (v6/Auto) has the prefix 9C1 on the tag on the radiator support panel, but our friends VX Ex - police (bought from the police at the auctions) has a different code (9QX or something) both are gold in colour and have all the options previously mentioned, maybe they changed the option codes sometime during those years.
I remember reading in the Age or Sun a few years ago that holden had produced a batch of Police SS (VX I think) that were not required and where subsequently issued to Holden Execs to drive.
Despite the doom and gloom comments on here about ex cop cars, both cars have been reliable cars.
I think what 9C1pack said applies to my car. Cause the dealer said it used to be owned by a dealership like a sales managers car, when i say no trac control i thought he was just BSing me but i didn't say anything. But yeah by the sounds of it it could have been a surplus ex-cop car never issued for duty.
It was a few years ago, but I think the reason was, that they had been ordered when the VX was at the end of its model run and the VY was about to be released, so the Govt bean counters said we don't want the old model, we want the new one for its resale value. It was in the motoring lift-outs, industry gossip section.
