Hi all,
Test drove a VT today and was surprised with a few things. Firstly, the car had awful vibration when you accelerated, and once you were nearing the redline it would be a loud loud racket. It had a lumpy idle until it was warm.Im sure this can be fixed but I cant remember it being remotely like that! Secondly, I noticed that when you go over a hump or something the doors would sort of slide against the body? It seemed like it was flexing or something. Thirdly, it seemed like someone had taken out the dampening between the engine and the cabin? I hopped into the car at the dealership and shut the door. I switched the engine on and it sounded like the engine was sitting on my lap. The sound of the starter motor and all. Same while I was driving it.
The reason why I am mentioning this is because my first VT was nothing like this. I understand 11 years is a long time but still! This is my 3rd test driven commodore and they were all similar to this. Dont get my wrong im not knocking commodores I love them but I cannot remember them being anywhere like this.
Not sure. I am losing faith in finding a good one from all the bad ones. The flexing thing i noticed exactly same thing in my missus cousins car. Its not like a flex I cant explain it, its like the dorrs are rubbing against the body I dont know
Ive got a VX series 2 thats done 250,000 kms and still seems very solid so its gotta be an age based problem rather than a km based problem. what kinda kms did the cars have?
I think the door strikers could be loose or the door seals stuffed? or its been in an accident. Check for the normal stuff like chassis rails with bends or ripples or even the door pillars.
maybe drive a vx if you think it is vt specific. Mine does make a lot of noise, I think my door seals are stuffed. I've replaced the strikers on the front doors and it quieten down a bit but now I'm used to it and wanting it more quiet.
Doesn't matter what car/ model but there are good and bad ones. Work out which features you prefer and $ to spend then find a good one. Mine has 140000kms with alot of sideways and my wife still loves the drive of the car when she takes it shopping.
you test drove some clapped out VT, so y is there a thread about it?? every modle type of car has **** lemons that have been thrashed out and kaned so you just take one look at them and move on. i think you will find your problem is that your pinching every penny and expecting to get a nice car that just doesnt work. spend some decent money and get a decent example of the car, there is no need to drive 3 **** vts and then complain about it

Sounds like a very tired car. High km or just having driven long distances over rough roads with the suspension flogged out. VT's are starting to get very old now. They are also similar to VN-VP. Check out a VTII or VX, they are a far better car when it comes to that sort of thing.

Um its a free country mate and I say what I like. Im not here to offend anyone im just here to state a fact. Not pinching pennys or the like, the VT is in my budget. If you dont like it then dont reply.
To all the other normal people, the last one I drove had 237k with full history.
buy my VS! only 150k kms no rattles, solid as a rock! engines quiet inside cabin as well
Alot cheaper than a vt!![]()
like u said its a free country so i will say it. if the vt is in your budget then why did u test drive a car with 237ks on the clock? take the time and look for a good example of a vt. i never test drove a car over 150,000 becuase even with a good history they r getting towards the age where they get problems. i spent 2 years finding a vt with 70k on the clock and it has no problems. this wasnt a dig at you though mate i was just pointing out that the cars u were testing seemed to be hammered and shouldnt represtent others. good luck with the search.

A full Holden history or a full history from a Mechanic who gives a ****. Holden mechanics know their **** but aren't given the time or opportuity to show off their expertise much. Do the service and get it out is the motto.
Full histiry for 237000kms suggests to me that the last owners didn't actually learn anything about their car for an extremely long time (even how to change the oil LOL!) and probably never looked after it more than the bare minimum.
Like I said, get to know the model and its' shortcomings and go hunting with that knowledge.
that vibration on accelerating will be the tailshaft not being balanced or out of phase causing a whip,
is a very common problem an affected a lot of vs's if not most, have felt it in some early vt's,
im guessing that vt had been in an accident or it was driven alot on dirt roads

My vt has the whole shaking/vibrating thing while braking.
