Default Brake Shim broken. Do I NEED to replace?

Well I took the plunge and fitted some DBA Slots on the fronts of my 02 VX Acclaim along with some "competition" pads I picked up for a song from an online auction.

When changing them yesterday one of the metal clips in the top of the anchor plate was in 2 pieces. This is the one that appears to be part of the anti-rattle system.

How critical is this and should I replace it sooner rather than later?

IMO anything to do with brakes should be 100%. Are you talking about the thin tin thing that goes from the outside of both pads? Only anti rattle but while you are bedding in you new pads and rotors any vibes can make then more prone to run out down the track. Just my 2c.

How about some pics?

The metal clip is what locates the pad in the caliper and stops it from moving around. You need to get a new one.
