Default What type of brake fluid?

Hi all,

After a few years of living with brake shudder in the VX, I finally replaced the discs and pads this afternoon. Prior to starting work I removed some brake fluid from the reservior to prevent any spillage when pushing the caliper piston back in.

My problem is that the reservoir is now low on fluid and I need to top it up. Question is what is a suitable fluid to use. I have purchased a Dot 4 brake fluid but don't know whether it is compatible with what's in the Commodore. Holden specs say you should use a HN1796. Can anyone help?

It depends on what is in there already, if it is a dot 3, the dot 4 will not mix with it. Dot 4 is specified for high temperature applications, most standard street brake fluid is dot 3.

Just get what ever is the cheapest dot 4... It *literally* all comes from the same factory in Europe. Same factory that makes some of Dulux's premium paints... oddly enough.

^ And that's why. Its a specification, not a standard, meaning that there's only one place that can make it.
