Default Reasonable price for a VX executive? What to look out for..

Hi im about to purchase a 2001 VX executive from a dealer with about 175,000km on the clock for $8000 in nsw. Rego expires in late feb 09..Comes with 17'' ROH rims and cant rem what brand tyres but they are pretty new. Body works wise, the car is sweet except for a small bumper crack on the rear which i an't too fuse about now.... interior looks clean and nice with all electric options other than steering wheel controls

My question is:
is this a reasonable price as i have never bought such a high mileage car before and hence im abit apprehensive?

The dealer is offerering me another $500 for a 3 yr warranty which covers components such as engine, tranmission, cooling etc up to $1000 each.. is it a good idea to get that?

What shld i look out for when getting the car(most prob tmr afternoon)

Thanks
Isaac

175k isnt that bad. theyre not exactly a new car anymore, and it sounds like a decent price. what kind of electrics does it come with? wouldve thought an executive would be limited in that area. the extra $500 doesnt seem too bad either. replacing the entire engine wouldnt even cost $1000.

Just on the warranty thing. The way I look at it is, I pay $185 for the service and for that I get an oil filter and oil change, they also top up fluids which I keep topped up myself so there is nothing to do there. They also check brake pads. You don't get your money's worth, so what you are being overcharged is like paying insurance and like insurance, if have a problem and need to claim then it's a good thing, but if you never have a problem then it's a waste of money.

Sounds like a good price, but i wouldn't bother with the warranty.

$500 will get you a long way towards getting any repairs which need to be done to those components listed, and in my experience, it is actually very hard to make a claim anyway...

just my 2 c

yea.. thanks mate.. i was bending towards not getting the warranty too as i heard its always hard to claim from these none holden warranty companies and i rather use the 500 towards my bodykit or exhaust funds...cheers
