well my VS just packed it in over easter so its new car time, and my weapon of choice has been made, it will be a manual VX clubby.
im just intrested to know some things to looks out for when purchasing a VX, an LS1 and of course Clubsport. Any help will be much apricated.
thanks in advance Jesse.
Dont know if its common, but when we got the VX GTS, the diff has a leak, which my mate didnt get fixed, causing the diff to run out of fluid and cook its self...
I guess just look for common signs of ware and tare:
* check all the fluids
* make sure the cluch isnt slipping
* listen for any knocks/rattles
* make sure the disks are in good nick
* I'm sure all the oil consumption problems were fixed in the LS1 by VX, but you should look in the log book to see if this was a problem.
Yeah, just lift the oil cap and look for nice coloured oil. Get it up on a hoist for sure too! Look for leaks and undercarage damage!
Call HSV and get a check done on the VIN. Avoid paying good money for a mockup.
White 05 V6 VZ Executive - Thrashed Ex Telstra car
and 3 Dangerous non ABS VN's
Also check for oil leaks around the power steering pump, smooth idle, rear tyre inner edge wear, LSD operation, too.
Make sure it hammers!
The rear inner tyre wear problem was fixed when the VX Series II came out, to fix on earlier version you need a camber kit.
It wasn't completely fixed.
Holden just did a band-aid job of it, by adding a pair of adjustable lateral arms to partially recitfy the poor geometry control, by giving you the ability to adjust the toe, to an extent.
With the VE's new (old, actually) setup, it chops the outer edges!![]()
is power stearing a known problem with the VX's?
lol, how do you sugest i test the LSD???![]()
Check it out thoroughly.
I just replaced my power steering pump, dont know if its notorious throughout.
Camber kit will be a must, getting mine done tomorrie.
Get RAA or RAC or whatever it is in your state to give it a check over.
With a tune and a few bits and pieces, vx clubby lethal machine. GL!
RAA/RAC whatever are useless. They're mechanics that don't specialise in any particular car and more often than not they don't know what they're talking about with common problems on specific model cars. I wouldn't let RAC check the tyre pressure if I had a Clubsport.
Power steering tends to leak. My brother's VX had a leak from the reservoir but that was easily fixed. His also developed clutch problems far too easily. I admit he wasn't treading on eggshells when he drove it but his very expensive rims and tyres kept him in check.
I haven't lost my mind, it's backed up on tape somewhere
In regards to the power steering, it's either the rack that leaks, the resevoir that melts, or the pump that spits a seal.
^^^lol, any other problems with it
thanks for the heads up fellas.
