Hi. My VT has no spring in the ignition when I start it so when it starts you have to flip the key back manually to the ON position. I know the spring action is controlled by that black plastic ignition switch behind the barrel but i am having a lot of problems getting this off.
The bottom steering cover also wont come off as it has sort of D shaped bolt heads which isnt helping. I know with the VP's and those models the switch is held on by 2 tiny screws but i cant see these anywhere on the VT. any help at all would be good.
-Thanks
PS: I have a VT calais and i read if I mess with wires near the horn and airbag i should disconnect the battery as the airbags may go off (DO NOT WANT THAT) so i have disconnected the battery. Only problem is it must really look like im stealing this car cos the alarm wont stop and im bashing away at the ignition. Is there anyway to stop the alarm without having a key for it, last time i just let it run its own battery flat but it must recharge its-dam-self when you reconnect the main battery.
Cut the wires to the alarm horn?
The airbag will not go off, so you don't have to worry about that.
You need to pull the tilt adjuster lever down, there is a screw behind that. Then you slide the lower cover up towards the steering wheel and it comes off.
