Default twin 2.5" or twin 3"

just wondering wat would be better for my vx calais 5.7 a twin 2.5" or twin 3" both are going on ebay for $499 and $599 catback im looking for a nice loud note. at the moment im only looking to put cai for performance on at the moment as the finances arnt real good, and what would i need to put the exhaust on myself, any help would be great. also with lowering would king springs superlows all round need any camber kits etc, just want it to sit nice without being to low or to high

Unless you put a cam in it go the 2 1/2" twin. 3" twin may be louder but no benefit over 2 1/2" on a stock engine.

ok thanks will the 2.5" still give it a nice note i dont have extractors or high flow cats yet, wat would be the power gains from a 2.5" or 3" exhaust im looking at a xforce exhaust

to fit it yourself, I recommend a good car jack, preferably a car lift so you can stand under the car a strong arm, a big hammer and a friend.

It's not entirely rocket science (no offence intended to the exhaust fitters out there) it's just generally a physically challenging task.

EDIT: I've got one of those el-cheapo sports rear mufflers from eBay on my V6 and it's a very nice tone indeed.
I haven't lost my mind, it's backed up on tape somewhere

2.5" will be the go but if you have plans for a cam or H/C get the 3"
ether wont be that loud without headers or high flow cats
i recommend getting your standard cats opened up at least as they are a big restriction
fitting the zorst is a piece of **** I have don it a few times all you need is car stand and some sockets
and do a 2 hole mod with MCAI
as for the camber kit if its a series 2 it has multi link rear which allows you to adjust it if its not you will need one

also would you recommend saving a bit more and getting extractors and high flow cats all at once with the exhaust as i need to get the car lowered as well i was quoted about 600 for that by jax think it only includes low springs and the alignment should i buy king springs super lows and get someone to put them in for me only if i dont need the camber kit or is it just lows u dont need the kit for. sorry bout all the questions but its been buggin me not knowing what to do with it all

2 hole mod is on the lower section of the air box VT-VX come standard with 2 holes 1 90mm which had a pipe conected to it that runs up to the shroud next to the radiator and the second hole is 70mm which runs down under the guard
VY and later only have one hole
the process is you make the second hole 90mm and put the MCAI (monaro cold air induction) it is a shroud that blocks off the hot air from the intake
here is a guide but hasnt got the MCAI but this was is still good I did it this way back in the day
    http://swingtan.customer.netspace.net.au/2hole.html
headers and cats would be best bet if you cant afford them you dont have to do them but the standard cats are crap and very restrictive
the std headers arent that bad but i would get the cats opened this will make the exhaust sound better and give you more power and get a tune when funds permit
as for your spring i payed $260 for a set of supper lows and put the rears in my self and got a suspension shop to fit the fronts which cost me $180 including a 4 wheel wheel alignment and i would recommend a set of rear shortened shock as well but you can get away with out it
and the series 2 as a camber adjustment standard
    hope this helps

my car is booked in monday at jax to get lowerered they quoted me $1060 that includes the super low springs getting them fitted a camber kit and installing it and a alignment how does that price sound only live in a small town so not much variety out there, and is booked in tuesday to have a 2.5" cat back exhaust fitted and supplied for $500 i asked about getting the cats opened up but he said its not worth it till i get extractors on, so just wonderin what you guys think about all that.

I hope the suspension quote includes new shortened shocks for that price. Normally lowered springs, camber kit and allignment is about $600 if you don't replace the shocks. $1000 should include new shocks. Make sure they don't fit new standard height shocks otherwise they will be out of their operating range.

Exhaust sounds like a good price and yeah the cats don't really need to be modded until you do the headers. Also when you do headers, depending on which brand you get the flanges might have to be changed to suit the headers. I have Difilippos headers that have a 4 bolt flange where as Pacies and HM might have a different one, not sure.

My local is offering supply and fit king springs for $300 and a superpro 4 point camber kit for $380 supply and fit all alligned. I can't vouch for the quality of their work but that is their written quote.

$1000+ is a little pricey imo unless they are using some premium spring like Eibach or Whitelines(discontinued afaik).
