Default Connecting Fog Lights on a VT S

I recently put on a front bar that contains fog lights. I'm just wondering how I go about connecting the lights to a switch in the car as its only a S and didnt come stock with fog lights. Any instructions would be great. Thanks.

The wiring should already be in place so all you really need is a the proper foglight switch and a fuse and relay and you should be right. Check to see if the wiring is in place. Look under the front of the car and either side around where the radiator is and there should be a plug for the lights

To mount the switch to the fascia you can either buy a new one with the correct hole already in place or remove your fascia and cut the hole for it. The switch has a bezel to cover up slight inperfections in the hole if you cut it yourself.

There are two spare plugs behind the headlight switch with a dark grey foam pouch on them and black tape. Find the one that fits the foggie switch by fitting the relay and conneting the lights then testing the switch. Both plugs fit but only one is for the foggies.

Here we go, ripped off the front bar (OMG how easy is it!) and yep two plugs are there for some foggies (weather they work or not is another Q) I'm getting the bar painted at the moment so cant test just yet. I was going to pull the facia off today but got dark too quick. have been reading about how to do it and am confident on getting it done, although I do have 2 questions,
    1) when I get the foggies hooked up will they run off the same system as the headlights, ie turning off when the drivers door opens.
    2) I'm going to have to cut a hole in the facia, whats the best way to go about this?
    and one more.
3)chargedvx6 said that there are two plugs under the headlight switch, but only one is for the foggies, what the other for? Thanks again guys. its appreciated.

The foggies will turn off when you open the door.
The other plug is for an option which allows the lights to be on all the time.

awesome, thanks man, one more thing, I didnt really want to fork out $50 for a genuine fog light toggle switch, so I just got a normal toggle switch from Autobarn. i got two, one has a light init the other does not. they both have two prongs, one earth ect, the one with the light has one to power the light, will this work with the plug on the car now? ( I cant check as I havnt taken the facia off yet. Thanks dan

If you mean will the toggle switch plug into fog light plug, then no.
Occasionally you can find cheap genuine switches on ebay. Only one there at the moment with an opening bid of $43 or $58.95 buy it now and $10 postage (he's kidding). I have seen them much cheaper.

    Hi nabed4t.
I have just fitted the same lights to my Series 1 VT S pac.
Wiring is all there - only need a $9 relay (under the bonnet) from GMH.
If you aren't that competent with wiring, I recommend that you buy the genuine switch from Holden ($53) - it's well worth it, even just to avoid the extra wiring hassles with any after market switch.... if you had to pay someone to fit it would cost more than the switch!
Not to mention it suits the dash and looks like factory fitment.
The switch only needs a series of tiny holes drilled in the 'oval' shape of the bezel and then can be trimmed with a Stanley blade or small rasp/file.
You will need to put a 'tell tale' globe in the dash if you want the fog light indicator to work.
    Cheers

Mine already had the globe in the dash but it wasn't activated until I clipped in the in cabin switch and under bonnet relay.

To the OP, you are saving a few hungie by DIY this job so just get the genuine part for the switch. They are to be had for $25 from wreckers left right and centre or the new stuff isn't that much. At least if you use a bodgy switch don't wreck the fascia to fit it, just cable tie it under the dash out of sight and leave it on. When the headlights are on the foggies will be too.

Just be careful doing that, i know in queensland it is an offence to drive with your foggies on and it is not adverse weather conditions eg fog etc, expect a fine here..... The boys in blue have really been cracking down on this one due to many people compaining of being dazzled by additional lighting.
It may be different in your state?
If unsure google your local transport authorities rules on additional lighting.
Also there was a previous thread about foggies on here that was fairly in depth if you are interested.
My advice is go the original type swith and make it look factory. Car will look sweet with your new bar on!
    Good luck!

If they are wired properly (as factory) you can have them on without the headlights but the parkers will be on. The fog lights will not turn on with the headlight switch in the off position.

They are stuck on, I don't think they have locating pins. Use a hair dryer to heat it up and it should come off easily.

Alas there is a pin. I'll look into getting it off and the hole filled. Any DIY tips on how to fill the hole would be great.
Also I'm trying to change the cluster from the standard black to a white one, any hints on how to do so would be great, I've gotten as far as I can, I've removed the protective glass and need to remove the needles. i've searched for related forums but can only find very vague details. I need to know is there any risk in removing the needles, will it effect the acuracy of the dials? Thanks.

Ok, I popped off the badge on the bonnet, came off really easily, suprised it hadnt been stolen. All the glue from behind the badge was gone. Only the pins were holding it in place. just a quick question. Is it possible to get the holes filled in or somthing of that nature? Thanks,

I also have a VT exec v6 97, will this have the wiring to? Do all Vt's have the wiring come stock?
    So basically let me get this straight;

    There is wiring already there,
I just need to hook up it up to the foglights
Buy one of these genuine holden switches for around $50
then run the wires to my dash and mount the switch?

    Have i missed anything :S

It may or may not be there. Check where the relay goes and if it has connectors for the pins of the relay in the holes, you should have the wiring in place. You can also check under the car at the front, either side of the radiator and see if the plugs are there.
If they are there, then all you need is the lights, switch, relay and maybe a fuse, no need to run any wires.

Yeah mate thats all you have to do, $9 relay from holden, use the relay diagram under the bonnet to find where the relay goes, plug it in, in the dash, right under the headlight switch behind the facia there "should" be a plug wrapped up in padding and tucked away in a recess, just unwrap it and plug it into the fogy switch, (after youve mounted it) and away you go.
One more thing, the plugs on the front of the car may need a clean, they arnt covered and as a result are exposed to the element dirt and alot of crap get in there. just check so you get a clean connection. Good luck with it!

Where abouts does the relay go? I am confused :S

If you check out my ride in my sig, i already have fog lights on my monaro bar, i just need em hooked up.
Dad said he was gonna get a auto elec but i started reading here and if the wires are there it wont be complicated at all because im alright with electronics/wires

Whoops, posted this JUST as i got the email saying nabed4t wrote that ill check it out now before work.

    THANKS MATE!

Pop the bonnet, on the left hand side just behind the battery should be a black covering, pop that off and the relays go there, use the diagram on the back of the box to see where the fog light relay goes.

Yup ive got a relay in there, what happens now. where abouts should the wire be for the foglights?
And i assume there already would be a wire run through to the dash/facia?
