The drive shaft flange might be different and if it is you need to get a diff builder to change it for you as there is a collapsible space behind the flange and the preload needs to perfect or else you will end up with a noisy diff or worst case you will destroy the diff in a matter of seconds.

It can be done but you will have to mod the pinion. Plus the fact that you will have a diff with an extra 70 000kms+ more wear than if you bought a VT diff. $400 should see you right for the real deal

EBAY is your best bet. I picked one up for $200 - had it rebuilt with a set of 3.46 gears and haven't looked back. A very worthy upgrade that cost around a grand all up. More go, and i even found i got better fuel economy with the gear ratio change.

I put 3.46 gears in. You could go 3.7's or 3.9's if you plan to take it to the track a lot, but i think the 3.46 are the best all round gears, especially for an auto. I sit on 2,100 RPM at 100 kph which is barely noticeable difference to the 1,800 RPM 3.08 gears sit on. By going to 3.46 gear you get equivalent to an extra 10% more power at the rear wheels, which coupled with a LSD makes for some good fun

I bought my gears from ebay however the company i bought them from have a website too - see Diff Technics.

You will need to get the speedo recalibrated, which cost me $55 (i think) - had it done later on when i got the car serviced - just meant in the mean time i could sit on 110 on the speedo coz it was really 100 (just looks faster )

    Cheers,
    Matt

BTW. the HSV LSD for the VT had 3.46 gears in it (or 3.45 in the VS i think)

Yeah Iv'e got 3.46 in my VX, big pickup over the stock 3.07s and still good for interstate if need be. It revs @2000rpm on 100km/h in lock up and shifts into 3rd at 5700rpm at 120km/h. Takes off in 3rd after the change whereas with stock 3.07 it was a bit too much for the engine
