Default Front calliper - piston boot refitting and sliding piston into bore

Hey guys

I decided to replace both sets of brake pads a few days ago. The left front went fine but the right front gave me issues.

When I depressed one of the pistons at the right front calliper the other piston went completely out (understandable) but was stuck as a consequence.

Subsequently I had to refit the pistons back in but upon fitting the the boot cover for the piston then the piston itself I found it impossible to do it this way (as in The Haynes manual). So I put the lip of the boot outside the calliper for the time being..........but this is a short term measure.

I heard there is a "special tool" to allow you to get the seal in and then slide the piston over it?

Otherwise what is a method that I can use to keep the boot cover open enough to slide the piston through and into the bore sucessfully.

Appreciate any help

The way to fit the boot, is to put the bead of the boot into the groove of the caliper first, then carefully stretch the boot over the back of the piston without pulling the boot out of the caliper. Once that is done, push the piston slowly into the caliper. Using rubber grease makes it a lot easier.

For future reference, only do one side at a time when pushing the piston in. Leave the other caliper mounted to the rotor, that way it won't pop the other piston out.
