I have a VT Commodore Series 2 with a Eurovox Tape Head unit. I generally use this with an mp3 player on the line in. I have noticed I have trouble pushing any buttons on the unit. For example I push the on/off switch and this doesnt do anything, and the tune buttons in radio mode don't do anything. It will go into radio mode and change from am/fm but you cannot tune stations.
Due to daylight saving I cannot change the clock on the unit as the buttons do not function, so I have removed the fuse in the hope of resetting the unit. This worked however my radio pin has a 3 in it.....and the 3 button also seems to not do anything therefore cannot get past pin.
Anyone know of any fixes to this? I will try again in 1 hour due to pin lockout but I think the buttons must have some sort of issue.
If I can't fix it how hard is installation of a new head unit to fit the cable header for the eurovox?
Can't help with your problem but I can tell you how to remove the head unit.
Cut 2 pieces of coathanger wire about 8 inches long and bend them into a U shape and insert them into the 2 holes either side of the unit. Push them until it unlocks and the you can pull it out. Look at the photo in this ebay link to see what I mean:VT VX Commodore Stereo Radio Removal Tool - eBay, Other Car Parts, Accessories, Car Parts, Accessories, Cars, Bikes, Boats. A U shape will do, it doesn't need to be as neat as the one in the photo.

Thanks, I have got the unit out using the above method. Now I have been reading threads about replacing the head unit. From what I read I should be able to get like a header that fits the eurovox/holden plug that exists from the car and solder and heatshrink these to any other head unit I buy.
Where can you buy these headers?
Also mounting a single DIN or a double DIN unit do you have to screw in some sort of rails for a new unit or will it just slide into the current space?
I have read about getting a Mazda pocket thing if I choose to put in a single DIN unit so this sounds like a good option also.

I had the same problem with my buttons, and discovered I had broken the earth wire off the back of the head unit's circuit board, it is such a short wire and in taking off the head it snapped, and also pulled out the flat white ribbon cable, maybe yours is the same or partly off or the earth has a dry solder joint.
junk the unit while u have it out and put in a double din kenwood, pioneer or sony unit.
Good idea. I have a great Sony double din for sale that will plug straight in, no wiring hassles.http://forums.justcommodores.com.au/...head-unit.html
Won't fit into the Caprice due to the woodgrain surround.

Single din is easy to install with an adapter tray available form car audio stores.
I purchased my tray and loom adapter from Autobarn.
My factory unit had a similar fault. I lost a few buttons as well and found I could not enter my code!
I remove the unit and found the fascia screw loose and a $2 coin inside.
Fixed it up and it worked fine.
Very common to find money in these units espeicially if you have kids!
Better the Devil you know!
