Hey guys, haven't been here for a while but i now have a problem...
The front suspension is shot in mt VT, it bounces like there's no tomorrow. I have King SL's on standard strut towers.
I heard all you have to do is dismantle the strut, get the spring out, then buzz a bolt out and take out the shocker, and just replace the shocker, as opposed to replacing the whole kit and caboodle.
IS THIS TRUE?? And how hard is it to do?
Cheers in advance.....
If its bouncing... you need a new strut... relpace that and your back on the road.
Not all that to do... there was another tread on suspension a couple down and taking the front apart was talked about.
Good Luck
Yes, fairly straight forward to do. You will need to remove the whole strut assembly from the vehicle, spring included. The new strut will need to have the spring and top mount swapped to it, then refit to the vehicle.
No. The strut assembly is combined with the shock absorber.
If the vehicle is considerably low already then it may be possible to replace the strut without using spring compressors.
It's worth replacing your upper strut bearings now while the suspension is apart.
Becareful of these bearings when refitting the strut assembly as they are mainly constructed of plastic and when pinched it breaks.
You are also 'supposed' to replace the strut bolts and have a wheel alignment check performed after the repair.
Better the Devil you know!
