    Default Trouble never ends...

Once again my 97 VT is trying to suck every last cent I have. This time when I scroll through my modes til I hit "Distance til empty" i get " - - - -" and my fuel gauge is dead. Just trying to figure out whether its the wiring, the fuel sender or something else as I dont want to be running around buying parts that I don't need. Any help would be much appreciated.

Maybe try cleaning all the plugs to make sure they've got a good connection n start from there...

My best bet would be the fuel level sender. Does your fuel gauge read properly?

VT fuel senders are reputably dodgy. There was a recall on some of them. At least it's not the pump!

Yeah my bets are the fuel sender is gone. Reset the ECU and the fuel gauge started working again but didnt stop, kept going to full mark even though ive got around half a tank. And another thing if its saying full why is the fuel light on?? Fuel senders arent cheap either got quoted $400. I'll have to try the wreckers. Thanks for the feedback

Mate I wouldn't be suprised if the one from the wrecker is stuffed as well. Something to keep in mind.

Isn't the pump and sender one unit on the VT?
Not the sort of thing to buy secondhand

Yeah sorry meant pump and sender. I've read in other threads that you can get the sender separately for around $100. Haven't had any luck tracking one down though. True you never know what your gonna get when you buy one that has been sitting in a yard for god knows how long. Funny thing is the gauge seems to be working okay now. But for how much longer?
