    Default Navman keeps blowing fuse

    Hey

I own a 2001 series 2 S pack Holden Commodore. I just bought a GPS Navman and installed it in my car. But for some reason whenever i connect it to the cigarette lighter for power. It keeps blowing the cigarette lighter fuse. I have to keep replacing the fuse with a new one over and over.

Does anyone know the problem and what i could do to fix this. Thanks alot guys

    Cool Try This

Try plugging something else in to the cigerette lighter that will draw a reasonable amount of current and see. If you have a small handheld spotlight etc, give that a go and see how it goes. If not try something smaller and see what happens eg. Mp3 etc. I would not imagine that the GPs would draw that much actually, but if it blows a fuse when you plug something else in, it is your circuitry to the lighter socket. Also try your navman in another car, go for a decent drive and see if you have any dramas. Same thing, if you blow a fuse you know that you have a problem with the GPS. If this is the case make sure it is not twisted wires inside the plug that goes into the cigerette lighter. May just have 1 small stray wire almost touching between the terminals.
    Good luck! Keep us posted!
    How old is the GPS?
What is its rated current draw??

Try it in a different car and see if that car does the same thing?

    Default Similar Problem in VS

I had a similar problem in a vs, but not a VYII. I have also seen it a a WM Statesman.

The fuse has blown when the plug in the cigarette lighter socket is moved or bumped. The problem would almost certainly be in the lighter socket or wiring.

Is your cigarette lighter loose? I had a similar problem, with my sunroof. Every time i plugged in my mobile phone charger, the fuse would blow, then the sunroof would close...

    I know really odd!

turns out they wire the sunroof through the cigarette lighter, but all the nut on the end of the cigarette lighter ( inside the freaking dash) was loose. I could feel this when I plugged in the mobile charger.

Solution, I pulled apart the dash tightened up the nut on the back and it has never happened since. takes awhile to get to it but you have the chance to do a good vacuum, for all the crud that has fallen in there as well!
