Default Lowering VT Calais 97 mdl. with LPG fitted.

    Hey all,

I want to lower my VT Calais 97 model, fitted with LPG Dual Fuel.
If I fit King springs Super Lows all round, will it be legal height?
I definately will fit the camber kit as well, as it already has bad negative camber, with the 17's 235 / 45 Pirellis fitted, and if I dont those tyres will be rubbish in no time at all
No I dont particularly want to change the shocks too as they seem fine.
Would the King Springs - Super Lows, have it sitting about 2 inches lower?

I contacted Pedders, and they quoted me $938 as best price for springs all round and camber kit - yes thats right no shocks at all. What a rip off.
"Oh we will use our custom made sports ryder springs tailored to your car ... ra ra." I asked the guy who makes your springs and he said, they are our own brand, anyone know what brand of springs the Sports Ryder are?

    Cheers,

Yeah, I've got gas and Super lows. It sits perfectly.

Don't bother with Pedders. Buy the springs of a place in Hallam called Online Performance Auto's, he sells em the cheapest and either put em in yourself or get a mechanic to do it.

You don't need shortened shockers, but a Camber kit wouldn't be a bad idea.

What is a reasonable price to pay for supply and fit:

King springs - Superlows all round
    Camber Kit
    wheel alignment

I've got a few prices so far $938, and $850
both of which seem way too high.
recommend any places that are close to glen waverley that can do it on a Saturday?

    Cheers,

I'm working at a warehouse now, but better pay, more flexible hours and no more annoying customers.

You're looking at $200-$250 for the springs
You can get them put in for about $150
I think camber kits are about $125, you'd have to ring a suspension place to get them put in properly

I get all my wheel alignments done at the place that fully rebuilt my suspension after my crash. They are engine and suspension rebuilders. They do a much more thorough job than Pedders according to them and they only charge $45.

So it's a bit cheaper if you source and do it yourself.

Not interested in doing the work myself, too dangerous compressing springs etc.
Needs to be done by a workshop, but $850 is too much.
Camber Kits I've heard are like $350+

It will be cheaper if you buy said parts individually and have the work done by a workshop.

Ring Trevor at 9703 1652. He sells things at cheaper than trade price at Bursons/Repco and he will know exactly what you need.

Then ring around a couple of suspension places or workshops and ask them how much they'd charge in labour to chuck it all in.

Try Straightline Engines and Suspensions on Renver Rd in Clayton. Or ring Pedders and even wreckers will do it cheaper. Just offer cash.

GO to Advantage Suspension in Moorabbin, he fitted my kit with 4 wheel alignment for $440.

Now with 96 lpg litre tank, i have actually lifteed it with standard shocks and heavy duty king springs. Even with camber kit, whenever your tank it full then empty, the alignment never holds, heavy duty springs it sits same height empty or full, that is how mine is.

If you go down that road, even with camber kit you will chew through the inner rear tyres like no tomorrow. My mates friend runs a Pedders store and when I spoke to him he said that even with the camber kit the weight of the tank changes the whole rear setup and the way it sits. I ended up settling for standard height heavy duty and getting better tyre wear than have a my car look super low.

Ok, so my car is in the workshop and its going to be completed tomorrow I hope!
I've got K-mac 4 way adjustable camber and toe kit Superlows all round and GT Gas shocks for the rear, as the stock ones were stuffed!
Also getting a wheel alignment done.
Cant wait to get it back Do I have to adjust headlight aim to suit the new height?

    cheers

VT to VX1 needs camber kit even from standard height with a lpg tank and 18inch plus rims. Heavy duty standard or slightly lower recommended. Watch the ride height change as you fill the tank and let it run empty, tell me how its alignment is holding like that ? I put on heavy duty standard springs and now it sits the same level full or empty, and i dont scrape my arse on dips and driveways no more. My standard springs were perfect, but couldnt take the extra weight of a 96litre capacity gas tank, well not untill i put on 18 inch rims did i realise.

Got my car back on Friday evening, and I was like omg its so low!
Feels heaps better to drive now, no longer does it seem like a boat.
Sits nice n tight on the road and ride has improved I reckon.
The rims definately set the car off now too!
    Should have lowered it sooner.

    Cheers,

6 months, have you lowered your car before? What model Holden did you lower and have only 6 months life out of a set of tyres?

I would rather have a higher sitting car, save with lpg than lower it and pay everytime for tyres. 18inch tyres arent cheap for a daily driver. But as long as you are happy, and may not drive it much. with my camber kit i was able to do 40,000 + on my ****ty Falken tyres, over 2 years. Thats 1 year with the Camber kit.

Mine is sitting fine thankyou very much.
Doesnt alter height with an empty tank or a full tank.
Camber kit is 4point K-Mac type.
Standard height looks poxy and still has too much body roll!

    Cheers VT97Calais

VXCalais01 yeah so your a local hey.
when the 17's at the back wear out I've still got my set of stocky 16" VT Calais wheels.
I just take it slow when I go into driveways etc, havent scraped yet, touch wood, just take it slowly and your fine.

    Cheers,

Guys i have just got dual fuel on my VY S Pack. It has 17inch wheels and FE2 Suspension.

After reading this forum it appears that my tyre wear will be dramatically affected. Can anyone confirm this for my setup?
