chip for auto and manual the same??

hi, hope someone can help asap....I got a mate who is trading his car in tomorrow, its a vt 5 litre 5 speed manual with chip, I have a vt ss 5 litre automatic, I wanna swap chips before he trades it, are the chips the same or different for auto and manual? he paid $600 for it so I figure I might as well swap em. cheers
