    Default My Cooling System... Help

    Hey Guys !!

    My car overheated yesterday

    I drive a 2000 holden Commodore VT S/W

When I had a look there is a little plastic thing on the
right of the engine that has 2 x pipes going into it
and 2 coming out. Also there is a tube/wire that runs
from the top of it back throught the firewall. That has
    cracked and is leaking water.

Anyone know what that is ??

    Thanks alot !!

I think you are referring to the heater tap. Is it attached to the car body and does it have 4 hoses connected to it?

No, not really, somewhere between $20 and $30 dollars I'd say. Shop around at repco or Bursons etc.

Thanks. I had a VT wagon before this and it served me well for about 7 years with very few problems, heater tap being one of them. Good luck with it.

Easy to install, just undo the hoses and reconnect to the new tap. Remember where each hose goes. You will lose some coolant so it will need a top up and bleeding. The hose on top is a vacuum hose which enables the tap to be turned on and off.

Dude!!! I just did mine and i'm in Auckland - brand new their NZ55.00 from Repco... or NZ39.95 + shipping on trademe..

Also, stay away from the genuine Holden ones, they do crack easily... if i were you... i'd get rid of your second hand one and buy a new one...

I tried repco and they said there were none left in any Auckland stores and the only ones iI could see on Trade Me were from Aus so would have taken a while to be shipped accross...

I can be without a car !! haha

Also it was a long weekend so very few places were open so I just brought what I could to get it back on the road.

Thanks for the advise though I might replace it next week then ...

Don't despair if the tap leaks, disconnect the engine hoses from the tap and with a short piece of suitable pipe, join them together to by pass the heater.
The last new genuine part tap I purchased 2 years ago cost me $30.25 from Motor Traders, Adelaide.
