Today I was vacuuming my car and moved both seats forward as I usually do. I could not move than back anymore. I checked the fuse and almost burnt my finger so hot it was. Finally managed to remove it. Noticed that the power window fuse is the same type. First I checked the windows were working and than moved the power window fuse into the power seat slot. Still no movement and that fuse is gone as well.
Any ideas of what could be short circuited?
I cannot even drive anymore as the seats are all the way forward. Is there a way to manually move than back to a reasonable position so that I can at least drive it?
if it got that hot u probley melted a few wires together, makin a short sumwere, mite hav to go searching... another then that i wudnt hav a clue
Perhaps your wiring has rubbed through under the seat base.
Check especially where the wiring runs under the track.
Common to rub through pretentioner and side airbag wiring as well.
Better the Devil you know!
I disconnected all three motors plugs from each seat and the short circuit is still there, so I think it should be the wiring as suggested earlier.
I searched for instructions on how to remove the seats, but my search could only find some electrical tips about disconnecting the battery before disconnecting the airbag, etc. Can anyone point me to some instructions on how to actually remove the seats?
On each end and side of the tracks is 4 plastic covers tha you clip off and then there will be bolts undo these and unclip the wiring and remove the seat.,...
Word of warning dont start or move the car with the seats out casue the srs system will do a check and find thet the pre tensioners are not plugged in and will bring up a fault.......
Then everytime you start the car after that the srs/airbag light will come on followed by 3-4 beeps EVERYTIMEand the only way to clear the code is with tech 2 trust i found out the hard way lived with it for 2 months till i swung a holden mate with a tech 2 to clear them for me...
Just my 2 cents
Disconnect the battery before you proceed and you'll be fine.
Once all refit, re-connect.
2 plugs: one for pretentioner and one for seat motor.
3 plugs if side airbag.
More if memory seats.
Take the head rest off and tilt the seat all the way forward before trying to lift out.
Unclip the trims and remove a screw located at RHF seat base trim.
5/8 or 16mm bolts.
