how many purple vx ss's were made?
as the title states i was wondering if anyone knows how many purple haze (vy purple colour) vx ss were made???

Not the VY SS you were after. But of the 15,728 GTO's shipped to the USA in 2004, 700 were Cosmo Purple = 4.45%. 366 Manual & 334 Auto.
So a Purple VX SS would be rare beast I'd say.

I have to say I don't think I have ever seen a purple vx? SS of otherwise, of course now you have asked the question i will probably drive down the street and see heaps. But at the moment am wondering if they made them in purple in vx? My gut is saying that was a colour for vy or vz? Got me very curious now. We need an insider from Holden with access to their database!

may be mistaken but a while ago there was a guy selling a vx on boostcruising.com it was the phantom purple i think your on about! cant remember if it was a ss but he did put a figure down on how much were made really cant remember somethinglike 11 or smthing tripped me out whe i saw it!
the 'haze' purple vx ss's we're for testing public reaction to the colour. it was either 6 or 12 made, just like the vx s's made in devil yellow, i'm pretty sure there was only 6 made. if i found one in manual i would jump on it so quick.
Need some parts for my VH 253:
Green standard steering wheel...Green lower B-pillar covers.
Green sunglasses holder/lower dash bits...Air-con and assorted engine bay parts.

I've heard of a few Cosmo (VY purple) VXs, and have seen one Devil Yellow one, and one Hothouse Green VU ute.
I've seen a couple of Purple Haze VXs pop up on eBay too.
Typically, the hero colours demand a slightly higher re-sale value, but even higher, when it's on an out-going model, like Tiger Mica on Series 3 VS utes.

well i went and looked at 1 yesterday thats for sale, vx ss looks good in the purple but asking to much for something that needs some work to get it back up to scratch, ne way the guy selling said there was only 10 made

cosmo is pretty common, purple haze... ive only seen one
i could be wrong but with vt ss' they made 50 hyper yellow and 50 in vx red. i remember finding a few when a mate was looking for one a few years back. they were the very last of the vt ss' and it was a test for the vx. maybe the purple vx is the same deal?

Heh - how interesting, there used to be a devil yellow one frequenting around West Perth and it had the supercharged badge on the sides. It was a smick looking thing - even completly factory..

As someone said, they always paint the outgoing model with a new colour to test opinion on them.

i didnt know about the purple vx ss's. however i know for certain as i saw it at the holden dealer back in 2002ish. there were 15th anniversary clubsport edition that came in that purple. i have not seen one since. has anyone else seen one lately, or at least remember them?

hey speaking of rare colours. i went to the melbourne motor show once, and in the parking lot underneath there was a turismo blue, and a cherry red (only found on cv8r) and if i remember correctly a mandarin orange-y colour monaros. and this is when the new monaro first came out in about 2002-03. I once saw the v2 monaro in turismo blue in a friends street.
-now the turismo blue obviously cam out on vz's and vz monaros and coupes
-the cherry red came out on the cv8 r
-and i have never seen that mandarin colour since
when you put these cars side by side they looked like gumball colours.
Another time i went the hsv factory back in about 2003-04 and saw a VY clubsport in the cv8z (tiger mica looking) colour. they didnt come out in the VY's to my knowledge only seen them on cv8z and vz hsv's.
So im guessing the are a few rare car/colour combinations out there.
Its good living in melbourne you get to see proto types and test cars regulary. eg new camo'd camaro. especially around fishermens bend

Even better living in Adelaide. We see the pilots before you guys even get a hint of em. (saw one of the first pilot monaro's down the line in Hothouse) Looked nuts under all the fluro's, although now the colour has been done to death!

it looks like your right about greg murphy edition clubsport in purple.
i was just about dead certain that there was a 15th anniversary edition vx clubsport in purple, however i cannot find one on the web. i remember seeing it at booran holden cheltenham, but i guess it was a greg murphy special. its driving me nuts, i was so certain of it, ah well
the 15th anniversary clubsport r8s were in delft blue.
no idea of numbers they made though..
