Hey guys,
Just wondering if you can help me out on this one. On my Series 1 99 VT Wagon - When I pull the petrol flap release handle in the drivers footwell, the petrol flap does not come open. So I had to just pull the cap open by hand while another person pulled up on the handle. It was a bit hard but i got it.
The puller does work - just a bit half assed, so this means it doesnt pull the black tab in the petrol recess back far enough for the flap to swing open.
Has anyone had this problem previous?
Does anyone know how to fix this?
Thanks in advance,
Deano

Most likely I'd say that the problem is at the lever itself. There is a small bit of plastic that holds the outer sleeve of the cable in place while the lever moves the inner part of the cable. If the cable has slipped out of its holder then it wont work well.
I'd suggest removing the leaver and checking it out. From memory it only a simple job.

I did have a look at the lever setup and it seems to be fine - there is just alot of travel in the lever before it starts to pull on the cable and this seems to be the problem.
Is there any kind of adjustment that can be made at the lever end or behind the flap at the boot?

I think the problem, is at the lever end. You are going to have to lift the scuff plate and have a look beneath.
There is an emergency release of the fuel door however.
Reading from the 'book',... open the storage compartment at the rear of the wagon on the R/H side and trace the location of the end of the filler release cable with your fingers pushing forward in the storage bag. Push towards the car front and the door will open.
Just tried it on my bus and it worked easily. Press about 10 cm down from the storage door opening.

I just happen to have a fuel door lever and cable lying around from my project so I thought Id take a photo of what I was refering to. The arrow is pointing to the part of the plastic I mentioned previously. The Yellow section has to be held in place and not allowed to move. This is the most common cause of fuel door release malfunction. There really isn't any other place for adustment other then inside the car.

Check out your cable mate.
They sieze up as they get older at the flap end.
The locking cam doesn't move so smoothly any more.
Temp fix would envolve removal from the boot end and lubrication.
Correct fix envolves a new cable.
Better the Devil you know!
