    Default Interesting Ignition problem

    Hey All

Since my last question proved to be successful, my poor commodore has had another mishap of late.

I went to start it about a week ago, turned the key, all the lights went on but didnt turn overover. So when we went to turn it back off......the key turned back but everything stayed on! So we have had to disconnect the battery....

I hope someone may have some insight to this little annoyance...before i have to tow it somewhere

    Cheers

Some times the ignition barrels snap off in the ignition switch...
You describe it as tho the ignition lights are coming on, you turn the key to off, the ignition lights are still on. Is this correct?

You will need to replace the ignition barrel. Quite simple actually because the barrel still turns. Remove the plastic surround, turn the key to "on", insert a pin in the hole on the side of the barrel and it will slide out. Install the new barrel by just pushing it in with the key in the "on" position.

You can buy a new barrel and assemble it yourself, or you can take the old barrel and the new bits to someone to do it for you.

If this is the case you may need to remove the ignition switch from the end of the barrell if it contains a broken piece still.
To refit the barrel you'll need to release the steering lock. I use a screw driver.
    Keep it in mind.

Mine dis exactly same thing on the same day!
Replaced the barrel as he said - changed the brass pieces over from lock to lock (fiddly job) so I can use the old key and all is OK now.
Took two days - my car was at a relatively remote work site in WA.
