LSD Fitted: How do I tell?
Just finally got a nice VT Supercharged Calais .. very happy with the car .. the guy I bought it from, i noticed, had ticked the "LSD" box on the original car listing, but never mentioned it in later dealings about the car .. It was hardly a deciding factor for me in buying the car, but now that i've got it, I do wonder if I've got one .. short of going out and burning up some rubber, how do I tell if it has one fitted or not? Can you tell from the VIN number or another method?
Thanks in advance!

Jack the ass end up and spin the wheel, if it's LSD it will spin both in the same direction, if an open-wheeler they will spin in the oposite direction.
Or check the code on the compliance plate, under axle GU4 is an open-wheeler, LSD something else, but this is not always correct just tells if it is factory LSD as my code is GU4 but is an LSD.

Or, start the car, and (presuming its a manual) dial it up to redline with the clutch in and 1st selected. Release clutch. Note results.

Very much doubt it would be a manual unless it was converted, as calais' dont come out with manuals

Thanks for the replies As Julie said, its an auto, being a calais. Being an ex-Telstra company car (who the hell works at Telstra and gets a S/C Calais for a company car!!!) it appears its had NO modifications in any way .. so i'd say what codes are on the plate is what its goign to have fitted, i'll have to have a look .. and also try the other methods for the fun of it .. an auto should still spin the wheels happily i'm sure

Given the history of the car, look underneath from the rear bumper at the diff housing, there should be an alloy tag (approx 8cm x 3 cm)held in place by the diff plug which will be stamped with the letters LSD use approved lubricant

Officially they didn't.
If you really wanted a manual, didn't accept no for an answer and were willing to wait, Holden would've eventually built you a manual Calais, but not with a S/C engine, as they didn't have a gearbox able to cope with the torque.

Look at the back of your diff and it will say if you need to use a LSD oil.
Cheers, Chris.
