just wondering about pricings. not happy ey i dont even have a spare car to run around in![]()
If your replacing it because your sensor, go to a wreckers pick up a pump for $40-60 and drop it in. Cheapest and quickest way out...
I know how you feel I was quoted $400/500+ for it to be done, its a very easy job to replace yourself.
I was quoted about 500 from holdens, went to a mechanic near work who is really good and he got a pump for about 150 i think and fitted it for another 100. I's a bit of work if you don't have it on a hoist.
The fuel pump is positioned inside the tank. You have to lower the petrol tank down a fair way or straight to the bottom of the ground. It can be done by yourself but it is a bit of work.
You have to be delicate with the fuel pump as well as the sender unit is inside the housing. You can do it, just need to take care of what your doing.
Trickiest is getting the fuel tank back up in the right position. It is held by 3 metal straps with the strap closest to the filler neck the hardest to get into position. You have to hammer the bolt in on the angle and then with pressure tighten it vertically straight.
If it is your daily driver and you aren't willing to go through that pain I would just get it done by a mechanic.
If you are going to do it yourself just run the car to near empty. That way the tank will be light enough for you to move it around. I couldn't imagine doing it with a full tank.
I would definatly NOT buy a Fuel Pump from a Wreckers!!
Most of the time, they would have it sitting on a shelf which means the seals will dry out and when you put in into your vehicle, it will #$&@ itself very shortly.
Even if it comes Straight out of a Tank, it would most probably have been drained of petrol a long time ago.
I would only puchase a Fuel Pump from a wreckers, if it cameout of a Tank, and that it had petrol in it.
You can buy New ones from Bursons for around $150 Mark (A "Goss" Brand) from memory. They are pretty good. Do a bit of shopping around.
Takes about 1-2 Hours to do if your doing it youself.
A mechanic should do it in around 1-1.5 Hours Tops.
Mum got hers done at RACQ for $140. You can do it yourself, but it can take a day, I done mine. I woudnt be paying over $200 for it to be replaced.
