Default Converting VT to Electric Windows

    Hi Guy's,

I am after a good auto elect anywhere in the eastern suburbs in Melbourne to convert my 1997 VT Commodore from manual to electric windows that I have sought from a Calais.

    Any assistance would be appreciated.

    Cheers

    Simmo

I just came looking for just this same thing (except i'm an a elect eng, so I'll be doing it myself..) What's involved in putting power windows into a vt exec? I'm picking one up on saturday, and was wanting to add power windows (it's got everything else I wanted, except the power windows..).. - is it the loom there, and I just need the centre console switchblock and the actuators for the doors? Or is there more to it?

    Thanks,

    Damien

With an executive you will probably need to upgrade the BCM. Check under your console cover to see if the connector for the main switch block is there. If it is, your BCM should be OK. You will need door looms and rear switches, the switches for the rear windows on the main switch will not work without the rear door switches connected. If you need to changes the BCM then you will also need a loom for the main switches.
Also check to see if there are connectors in the holes for the window fuse and relay.

    Cool thanks

I'm guessing i'm going to be up for adding all the bits, as I made the dealer agree to fit cruise before I'd agree to buying it, and got a call from them yesterday saying it was going to take a bit longer to fit, because my loom didn't have the ability for cruise, so they were going to have to fit new loom bits.. Guess I'll see when I pick her up tomorrow

Sigh, no plug for the buttons in the centre console, so I'll have to lookup what's needed to add Was hoping it would, when I realised it was a series II, but no such luck.. They don't even have ABS?! Although using them, gotta say that winding the windows down isn't actually that much of a pain

Though gotta sort the power steer first! - power steer is intermittant at idle, and above idle, it pulses sometimes in continuous corners (like roundabouts).. I'll give her a bleed tonight, and get the missus to turn the wheel while I watch the pulley for any slow-downs (aka belt slippage), but might be wanting a new pump?

i attempted the conversion a couple of weeks ago. i swapped over all 4 doors (as they were the same colour and less stuffing around) had everything connected up except the 2 rear doors as the plug on the door harned was completely different to the wiring for the car . the fronts pluggeed in fine but the drivers window wouldnt work at all and the passenger would only go down and up a quarter inch? so i put my standard wind ups back on..... any ideas as to why this happened?

sorry to hijack your thread for a second, but accentstencil, my vt wagon has the big plug under the cup holders, which i am presuming is the plug for the main switch board...
but no looms in the doors for the motors to plug into, where abouts do the door looms plug into?
i'm looking at doing the conversion because my drivers window reg has just shat itself, and i hate the idea of putting a manual window winder back in it, when i want to put electrics in it in the future anyway... so i may aswell do it all now.
this would be a good help as i have searched everywhere for info on the wiring side of things, its the only thing really holding my back from doing it.
    cheers in advance mate

The door looms plug into the body where the rubber boot is between the doors and body. Make sure you get series 1 looms because series 2 area different, providing yours is a series 1 of course.

What are the front windows doing, when you say they don't work properly.

ok have done this a couple times now (i also sell conversion kits)

if you hav ea VT series 1 you need series 1 looms

VT series 2 looms to vy are the same

to get the drivers window working properly on an exec you need to by pass the BCM auto up down, just follow the wire to the bcm and bypass the BCM with it, then they will all work.

He has a series 1 Acclaim wagon so it should work without by-passing the BCM, I had a series 1 Acclaim wagon and did the conversion without by-passing the BCM and it worked perfectly. Wagons have a higher BCM than an Executive sedan because of the rear wipers.

the drivers didnt work at all and the passenger only went down an inch and up(when promted)... the rear wiring was a black plug (wierd shape) but the wiring from the cabin is a white rectangle/square plug. fronts fit stait in. the donor car was a supercharged series 2 s pac and mine is an executive ex police im guessing series one...
