Hi,
My A/C fan is not working on the high setting. It works on 1,2 and 3 though.
Surely it cant be a fuse as I would have thought if that was the case the thing would not work on any setting? Is this a common problem?
Not really sure how this is set up in a VT-VX.
How it works in older cars though is that the first three speeds work through a resistor block and high speed actually bypasses the resistor block by triggering a relay to power the fan directly with full battery voltage.
The fuse for this relay or the relay itself could be at fault.
I've looked at the wiring diagram from VT-VY manual. There is only one fuse FY that protects the fan circuit so it can't be that. I would be more inclined to say you have a faulty fan relay. As commsirac pointed out, on the high setting, the relay bypasses the fan resistor block. If this relay is at fault, your fan will not work on the high setting with the A/C master switch on or off. However your A/C light should remain on if the A/C switch is on. If your A/C light goes off on the high speed fan setting, then its either a wiring fault or you have a problem with the BCM. If you have a climate control, then it becomes more complicated, the components involved are the fan motor control, climate control or the BCM.
I noticed your ride is a VS Maloo. I don't know if your question is related to the VT-VX models or your VS?
The AC light goes off when it is on the high setting. The fan/heater does not work on the high setting. Is there a relay I can swap it around with under the dash? The car in question is a 97 VT V6, I should update my ride as I sold the Maloo a while ago!
Thanks for the tips, hopefully I can get this sorted without seeing an auto electrician, its not the end of the world as it works on the lower settings, but it would be nice if it did work.
Hi. I have the exact same problem. I have swapped the relay with another and still nothing. Any ideas? Thanks
