    Cool heat sheild

hi guys i was wondering if anyone has some dimensions for a heat shield for a vx v6? i seen the price to buy and its so expensive. I'm a laser cutter so i was going to program one up then cut it, i thought i would ask for dimensions first but if no one has any i will just start from scratch thanks Scott

A heat shield for what mate? The exhaust manifolds? A pod filter?
If for the exhaust manifolds then look at something like the FIT one's for idea's Laser Cut Heat Shield from Forced Induction Technologies - Australia's V6 Supercharged Specialists
I would just make up a template from cardboard first, then go to aluminum. It will most likely take a few goes to get it 100% but if you can make one that a) works well and b) is cost effective you may be able to make some extra pocket money

for the manifold mate, was thinking of doing it abit bigger as well to put the pod to better use as it wont be sucking as much hot air. i will do it out of 316 stainless as it doesn't rust and does not hold the heat as much as 304, OR ally that price is heaps i can do it for half the price and better material

You are paying for the research and development along with overheads and a profit margin on a retail product, what do you expect?
You may be able to make it for half the price but do you really think you will get it 100% right first time? I doubt it.

    rvx 219 I think you're missing Airstrike's point.

You haven't factored in development or research costs. You're assuming you can develop the part, produce a .dxf and cut it right the first time.

But having said that if you were to reverse engineer a part you already have, you probably will get it right the first time. Do you program as well? Or just run the machine? I wouldn't charge more than slab though!

And for the record, I've been in the industry for 15 years. Have substantial experience with CNC lasers/turrets/press brakes.

If rvx 219 can develop, produced and prove his heat shield works it will be good for the commodore guys and maybe even make something special.

So lets all just wait and see what comes about im sure like the rest of his car it will be interested yet maybe not too everyones taste but effort should be given to even try things like this with his skills in cnc machine operating, laser cutting etc that can be put to practice.

Im pretty sure id buy one of these if i had a v6 and required one, even without seeing it because i know what scott is capable of. He is someone who would never rip anyone off or charge the earth,he doe's things to help people out because they share the same interests the commodore, so if anyone is generally interested id be sending him pm's for futher info.
    Cheers.

I'm a member of this site and the ford site (was a ford owner too) and I must say that there seems to be a lot more arguments in the holden forum than the ford forum. As much as I don't like Fords if anyone has a peek at their forum they will notice that most of the members don't have the attitude problem that some members do here. There seems to be a few guys here that think they are always right and never wrong where as in the ford site everyone seems to be interested in listening to others. I'm not have a go at anyone in particular here but it is a shame in how some guys get knocked for expressing they're own opinion.

Oh and when you get this heat shield done could you post some pics of it cause I reckon you might have a few guys interested in it.

rvx219 sorry to ask this but as a car novice what does a heat shield do exactly. I'm learning slowly about cars but getting better.

    cheers in advance
