hi i have a v6 vt auto and i disconnected the battery yesturday and since than it has a idling problem, it idles and starts ok but is erratic! and if i go up the road and slow down it starts idling as though its missing and revs are lower at idle than should be
how can i fix this ,is it easy or someting major??
also when i start car there is 3 may be 4 beeps, similar to da da da --- da da da ----da da da somethin like that u get my drift i hope, can anyone help me with this,
there is a light on! a pic of a motor with a thunderbolt throug it- whats it mean
Check Drivetrain warning light! Check your owner's manual.
That is the check engine light, it means a problem has occurred and a fault code should have been logged. Check the fault codes and it may tell you what the problem is.

cheers ill do that now and let u know
thanks champ- never had any commodore before so its all new to me, ive always had old holdens like toranas and thought a change would be the go, so if i ask stupid questions im sorry- big learning process about to start id say !
thanks
The only way to learn is to ask questions. If you do get any codes apart from 12, let us know and we may be able to tell what it means and possible reasons for it.

ok thanks heres what i got
31- theft deterrent signal missing
44- rh oxygen sensor -lean signal
48- cam angle sensor- no signal
64- lh oxygen sensor- lean signal
92- low speed fan fault
these i got from the codes on this site-
NOW THE BIG QUESTION-
HOW DO I FIX IT AND WHAT CAUSED THIS MASSIVE FAULTS,
is therea mechanical or electrical problem
so whats all this stuff mean- did i buy a dud!
is it really as bad as it sounds
Someone with more knowledge on the causes will probably be able to help.
Code 92 is a common fault and can be fixed with a new low speed fan relay.
Some faults occur intermittently and may not still be a fault.
You can clear the codes by disconnecting the negative battery terminal for about a minute (you will need to enter your radio PIN if you have stock radio).
Then take it for a drive and read the codes again to see if the are still coming up the same.
I just remembered that you did originally disconnect the battery so they would be fresh codes.
It probably isn't as bad as it sounds. Just give it a while for more responses.

yeh thanks mate- its good to have someone thats willing to help, im used to older cars as i said and its strange having all this computer type settings, im getting into a field i know nothing about but the commodores are definetly more practical to drive , ive had plenty of old holdens like toranas over the past 17 years and i am loving the vt commodore , , i just bought it and its got 17 inch advanti mags ,hsv spoiler kit front and rear and boot spoiler etc, not a bad unit in tundra color, just has a few issues as all cars do i suppose, got clubsport hsv stickers and badges all over it , i hope it serves me well for a few years at least, i say youll here more from me over the next couple of weeks as its a new field of mechanical knowledge im getting into- very different feeling when the car tells you it has a problem, whats the world coming too!
i must be getting old! the way of the future i suppose,
no more old holdens for me- i got driveability ,comfort and a bit of luxury and not bad power , what more can one ask for, bugger the old holdens -they really start remminding me of series 1 landrovers!
Sounds like a nice car. Post some pics in the "My Ride" section.
How many Ks has it done? It may be due for a change of the oxygen sensors, apparently the should be changed every 80,000-100,000 kms as they lose there efficiency as they age. That might also fix code 44 and 64.

the idle problem will be caused by one of these thing's
44- rh oxygen sensor -lean signal
48- cam angle sensor- no signal
64- lh oxygen sensor- lean signal
31 and 92 wont be causing your issue
my suggestion would be to check your cam angle sensor and see if you can see why you aint getting a signal
and for the oxy sensor's they can be caused be these things
the wires- sensor pig tail may be contacting with exhaust
check wires and make sure there not earthing themselves
Feul contamintation- small amount's or water in fuel
Maf sensor- a shifted maf sensor could cause the system to go lean
fuel pressure- system will go lean if pressure is too low
Exhaust leaks - exhaust, vacuum or crank case leaks can cause the
system to run lean
Might also be a IAC valve fault, being a vt they are 10 or more years old now and it may just require a throttle body clean, and not just a quick spray of carby cleaner but actually removing it and taking off the IACV and TPS and thoroughly cleaning out the ports, also check the purge hose which connects up underneath the throttle body.
Ive been chasing the rough idle and minor stall thing for weeks now as well.
I get 9 beeps every time I turn the key to start also. 3x3 beeps.
The globes in my dash are blown,(TRAC,LOW TRAC,ABAGS) but no check engine light shows(Its works lol) when this happens either and the car runs well in the higher revs, just rough idle etc..
Ive changed the fuel filter, plugs, leads, checked connections etc...did improve,,,but still rough,, and stalls after cranking intermittently,, but restarts immediately every time.
Checked the codes today.... got 10 3 4 2 (342)
CAM SENSOR CIRCUIT
I'll let u know how I go next few days after I change it and reset....
First I need to sort out the warning lights on my dash,,,,and sort any other issues that may be causing some problems also...
The 9 beeps is so annoying lol....
