hi just looking to get parts for my new car.
the ss inductions kit is too pricey for me and i dont want to do the 2 hole mod.
Instead, can i get the cai from a hsv xu6?
If so what is the part number?
please can anyone assist me in this venture?
so does anyone know if there the same or what?
i have compared the CAI from my Xu6 to a normal ecotec. it looks the same. Correct me if i am wrong!
yeh my xu6 intake looks exactly the same as my old berlina one
buy a spare airbox from holden, and go nuts at it. if you dont like it put the old standard one back in![]()
Sorry for re-opening this post but I want to correct what was said.
The XU6 intake is indeed different from the stock Holden V6 intake.
Both the Holden V6's (Ecotec N/A and Supercharged V6) use the same cold air intake.
the HSV XU6 uses the same air intake the VT Series 1 V8 HSV's used, with a bigger air intake mouth. and also has larger piping and a larger entry into the airbox.
Interesting however was that the early build VT Series 1 Commodores had a much smaller cold air intake opening. Holden increased this opening at the factory during a mid production revision of the VT cutting the intake opening up until the first styling ridge (as can be aseen in the first photo posted). Holden continued using the bigger opening until the end of production of the Ecotec V6 in the VY.

I find that hard to believe that was HSV's thoughts when the same intake was used on the Holden 5.7 litre 220kw V8 (VT Series 1).
But I do agree there are better ways of allowing the engine to breathe.
well I have to hazard a guess that the transition to gen 3 was planned years in advance, these things don't happen by accident with these big companies everything is planned in fine detail to leave them room to upgrade power they had choked out on the previous models. They could have gotten more power out of that stroked holden engine easily but I understand why they didn't.
