    Question Removing ABS mdule

    Hi all,
I need to find out how to remove the ABS module.
Does the molded plastic unit separate from the aluminium body, and will any fluid leak out if i remove it?
    Thanks.

To remove the plastic unit from the aluminium body, you would have to disconnect the wiring harness to the module first. There is a tab which sits beneath the wiring harness that you will have to pull out first (towards the engine), then you can lift the connector off the plastic unit once it is released. If it hasn't been taken off before, it can be quite stiff and may require a bit of effort to release the tab.

Next you would have to unscrew 4 screws holding the plastic unit to the aluminium body. These are star-shaped ones. Once the screws are out, you will be able to wiggle the plastic unit apart from the aluminium body.

The aluminium body is completely sealed from the plastic unit as these contains the valves that work your braking system. You should be able to drive your car as normal without the plastic module as long as you don't touch the aluminium body which has your brake fluid running through it to your brakes. The plastic module just houses the electronics for the ABS so its no big deal if your car has no ABS.

I'd seal the connector and wiring harness by wrapping some plastic over it to keep the dirt, oil and dust off the connector pins. Its also handy to spray wash the connector pins with some contact cleaner that you can pick up from Dick Smith, RS Components, etc before reconnecting back to your ABS module.

    Hope that helps.

Nope. The ABS electronic module is fully sealed and encased in resin so there isn't anything that you can fix in it. Its just a piece of expensive and useless rubbish.

There are people who claims they can fix it, but its not really worth it. For a peace of mind, you're better off buying a new module which should cost about $500 Bosch genuine.

There's 6 screws. You're probably not counting the two at the very bottom, accentstencil.

You're right. Upon closer inspection I see the 2 at the bottom. They are very hard to see.
