    Hi guys.
I do not know a lot about cars!
The problem i have is that the engine light on the dash stays on as well as the abs light i have no traction control cant use the cruise control or the power button. Also the radiator fan stays on all the time.
Now not knowing alot about cars i was wondering when my brother in law jump started his car could this have damaged the computer in my car and how easy is it to fix.
    any advice would be greatfull

Jump starting can damage the computer if it is not done correctly. Are there any other warning lights that illuminate apart from the engine light and ABS light?

Try resetting the PCM by disconnecting the battery for 10 seconds.

    MUFFIN,

Your ABS/Traction control module is not working. One quick way to find out is to open your bonnet and locate your ABS/Traction control module in the upper left hand area of the engine bay. There will be 5 small aluminium pipes running into this block and a wiring harness at the front. Disconnect the wiring harness by pulling out the tab under the harness towards the engine bay, then lift the harness off the ABS/ECT module. Start your car. The ABS and Trac off lights will come on but that is normal. Your engine warning light, air cond, cruise control should now be working and also your radiator fans will not come on at full blast. If this is the case, then you will need a new Bosch ABS/ECT electronic module which costs about $500 new. This is a known issue especially with the early Bosch ABS/ECT electronic modules. The actual ABS and brakes are fine.

Jump starting cars will not harm the computer as long as its performed correctly ie. one car should be idling first before connecting the car with the flat battery in parallel, then starting the car with the flat battery. My guess is, there is nothing wrong with your car's BCM or PCM...just a buggered ABS/ECT electronic module as above.

    Smile vt acclaim trouble

    Hi guys

The oil light comes on occasionally not all the time.

I have tried resetting the pcm by disconnecting the battery it still happens.

Sometimes everything is good and you drive out of the driveway and all the lights that i mentioned with the little warning alarm go off. And it does not start so easy you have to turn it over for a couple of seconds and it will start first go the second turn of the key.

i will try what was mentioned with the abs/ect module tomorrow.

    Thanks for all your help.

I also suspect the ABS module. That's why I asked about the oil light.
