Smile More power, small mods. what can i do

Hey all, I have a Commodore VX Series 2 Acclaim

I haven't done any engine mods at all. i wish i had money for supercharger but while on p's and not having that amount of money to blow, its not the right time

so in the mean time, what are cost cheap cost effective mods i can do to my VX?

I've head of grounding earth or something?

Replace leads? or something: more detail needed.

Only mods (mechanically?) ive done currently are cosmetic and a 3 Redback into 2.5" twin chrome tip exhaust

So my question is.. What are some cost effective mods i can do?.

Mods that may increase power and/or deliver better fuel economy.

    Thanks

    Grant

PS. I'm unable to use sale section of forums, but i have a set of VE SS wheels with original rubber up or sale if anyone is interested. (if i'm not allowed to say that sorry let me know and ill edit it out.

i recently put a larger throttle body on mine.. you can pick them up for around 150-250.

gives you really good throttle response and a bit more kick

there i also after market air filter
    cold air intake
    roller rockers
    plenum spacers and insulator's

    Rockers fro YT 1.95 - $600 bux
    Headers - $600
    CAI - $300 odd?

That would be the starting point.

throttle body give you better throttle respose and more air

    air filter gives cleaner air

cold air intake gives colder air

plenum insulator and spacer gives colder air and better air distribution

just get some nice clean rims, lower the **** out of it, get a shiftkit or ripshifter if its auto or man, buy a good stereo and cruise in it. Save your coin unitl your off your P's and get a V8 or go the forced induction route.

The first thing I would do is take the 3" off and put a 2 1/2" on it. The 3" will make a lot of noise but won't make it go. It's too big for the ecotec.

Im .9 behind you then mack got in front of me but is .4 behind you. Its so frustrating, I cant get it over 410, 413.7 was a total fluke!! But yet i still play it

I swear sometimes im SPOT ON. Cant get anymore power and smack bang in the middle of the white but it never goes over the magical number...

Sorry to hi-jack, didnt read the first post properly and missed that he already had a cat back.

As said roller rockers, MCAI, extractors and a set of 3.7's or 3.9 diff gears. Also depends if you want to keep it after you get of your p's.

Yes - well then MSD ignition, Cam and high flow cats. Then super charge it when you get off your p's

No - Lower it, tint the windows, get some wheels and keep it as a cruiser untill you get the car you want

yeh diff gears are a good idea for some extra poke.

When i got the high score the little white marker actually went off the power scale so im thinking glitch lol

Putting Diff gears on a stock ecotec is like putting an asthmatic hamster on a mountain bike in a lower gear. You will accelerate faster to about a whole lot of 20kmph at which point the ecotec will run out of legs and all you will be doing is making alot on noise, using alot of fuel and not going anywhere.

Last thing i did was my diff...

Ditch that stupid 3" catback... your doing more harm than good. Get a 2.5inch like its been stated already.

Get a better cold air intake so the engine can actaully get to the air it needs.

Get some headers.... ignore the "get a bigger TB" comment as its $150 go towards a better cai and filter...

Your tb can be as big as you want, but with the stock cai there won't be enough air available to make good use of it.

Getting an ecotec flowing better in and out and your half way.

Best bang for buck mod for the N/A ecotec by far is the higher ratio rockers but they are abit more coin and if your not gonna install them yourself a mechanic will try to rip you for it probably.

But at the end of the day, you have to think to yourself... is the ecotec the best starting point if you want something quick for minimum coind... answer = NO

So just pimp it for the time being... don't open your bonnet or try to show it off when the engine is running and once your off your P's. Get something that it worth doing up.

    Trust me.

Trust me, been there, done that... though. (Expect for the getting something worth doing up bit... i downgraded to a 318i...lol)

Yeah beginning to think i might just leave the engine alone.

Wheels: very unsure, thinking VE SSV wheels. help advice wanted with rim choice. and tyre a matter of fact. 1.7K max for rubber and rims.

Exhaust: i think my exhaust is 3", im really not sure.. its a red back something possibly 2.5" into twin 2.5 tips? only guessing.

Windows: Windows are factory tinted (re tint to darkest legal?)

Lowering: Will do super low Kings with 4 point camber kit and short body shocks

    Thanks
