G'day all
I have been working on my VT II commodore: replacing the dash facia. I disconnected the negative terminal on the battery as the manual said.
After i had completed the work i was able to start/drive my car, the next day it would not start at all, it just seemed to immobilise itself; everything just turned off when i tried starting the car. Today it managed to crank over a very little bit and then a clicking / grinding of gears at low speed sound, could be heard coming from the started motor area.
I tried giving the solenoid a few tap, in case it was just sticking, but to no avail.
As i said, this is likely to be an electrical problem as i was working around wires/fuses.
Also, when my car started up the other day once i had reconnected the battery terminal, my after market pioneer stereo wasn't on.
I'm getting the RACV over tomorrow;wednesday, but a second opinion would be very handy. Cheers
checked to make sure its not a flat battery
The negative terminal, being a cheaply made pieca wasn't making that good of contact, after the RACV replaced that for me and jump started my car it was quite evident that yes, I do need a new battery...very soon, it's one of those aerials, not very good, just like the cheap tall and narrow ones that you can get from autobarn if you're planning on selling your car soon.
I'm pretty sure, for those of you experiencing similar symptoms, that its the battery only that is causing my car to take a while to start.
I'll be installing one of those maintenance free batteries made in south korea very soon. I hear they're the best![]()
