    Default air bag warning

i have a '97 VT . the airbag warning light has come on out of the blue ( car has not been in accedent ) . the horn has also stoped working . could these two be related ? I have checked the fuses and reset the CPU . Id also like to know if i can "safely" remove the cover on the stearing wheel ? or will this deploy the air bag . cheers

hey mate i would not recomend taking off the cover as i have never done this but as for the airbag light could be a faulty wire have a look between the front bumper and the radiator you should see a 1 or 2 little boxes about the size of a match stick box they are the sensors for the airbags 1 could be loose or the wire ould have came off or could not be earthed out or 1 of the sensors could havepacked it in not to sure but you could try some of them lol sorry if it sounds a bit all over the place but they are a few things you could try hope it helps

the VT has no sensors near the radiator
if you remove the srs fuse you can safely remove the airbag from the steering wheel
the problem is most likely the clockspring behind the steering wheel as both the airbag & the horn wiring go through it.

The SRS sensor box is located on top of the trans tunnel under the consul.

Check/replace the steering wheel clockspring - as these two faults could definately be related and both rely on the clockspring.
