What oil for a VX LS1

i know this has been discussed before but i coul dnto find anything in the searchs.

I have a VXII LS1 and its due for its next oil change. I have not had it too long and only done 1 oil change since i have had it.

Its done 140,000km

The last oil change i used mobil 1 fully synthetic 5w-40 and i was not happy with this at all as since i used it the engine rattles bad.

Im after ideas of what to try. I dont mind spending money on good oil but saying that i dont want to spend more than about $70 as i think i should find something good for under this amount.

What oils do you all reccomend??? Should i just stick to a semi synthetic rather than fully???

dude I use mobil super 2000 10w-40 which I had in the Berlina, 38 bucks at repco for 5 litres and zero rattle. anything under 10w is too thin I reckon. some guys over on the LS1 site swear by castrol edge 10w-60. every LS1 is different so it might be trial and error until you find the oil your girl likes.

i got 5-30 in mine now i didnt notice any new reattles from when it had 10-40 magnatec.

I have tried a few oils (magnatec,penrite) and the best I have used so far is castrol edge ether 25/50 or 10/60

I recommend using penrite HPR 10 or 15 (10W50 or 15W50) thats what we use at our workshop

have you ever pulled a motor down after it has ran penrite oil?
it isnt a nice good
penrite doesnt have much if any detergent it in which sludge's your motor
this is why I stopped using it

i use nulon in my vt ss havent had any probs and oils comes out clean, thou i do change it every 5000

the LS1 i think is quite fussy what it runs on if you want it to have a nice quite motor,just like my old iron 350 that i,ve had there the same they don't like thin oil thats for sure,i swear with the mobil 2000 and the pro ma MBL8 oil additive is the best it ever been

I have had my VX SS from new, the first 5 to 6 years it was serviced by the local Holden dealer, they ran a 10w40 grade oil in it, either Mobil or Valvoline, they changed suppliers whilst I was having it serviced there, the last 3 to 4 years it has been serviced by a local workshop that specialises and races LS1 powered cars, they have been using Castrol Magnatec but not the 10w40 you buy retail but a bulk delivery workshop version which is a 15w40 grade. I have not had any issues with any of the oils that have been used, if you want to get real picky maybe the Magnatec could be a fraction quieter.

i use the nulon 15w - 50 street and track high performace not noise and no problems drive up and down the highway 6 hrs straight and still fine, had magnatech in a previous car and it was shit drove 4hrs and it got to thin and noisy
