    Default '98 VT Exec... Question.

    First off, I don't know jack all about cars lol... I can drive... That's about it really

    Anyway, VT is making a ticking noise. It's only when I accelerate. Otherwise it's really quiet (Other than the loud exhaust of course lol)

    My dad and a few others have looked at it thinking they knew what they were doing and didn't seem to change anything.

    They thought it had something to do with the exhaust manifold and the extractors... But all that is in working order.

    So, what do you think it could be?
    I would like to avoid taking it to someone if possible.

    exhaust leak from either

    - motor->extractor
    - or extracor->y piece?

    can you replicate the problem with the car in the driveway?

    try getting a bit of garden hose, hooking one end up to the ear on your head, then move the other end around the engine bay to pin-point the noise.

    Yeah even in Park I can just rev the engine and it will tick.

    I'll give this a go on the weekend... Seeing as I don't get home till dark and no lights near my car park area lol.

    And if it is one of these problems.... How to rectify it?

    if it is one of these problems - it could be as simple as a bolt that's come loose, or it could be a cracked extractor or something, requiring you to replace the actual part

    If you can, secure the car etc and get a mate to keep the revs up in park
    then go around the engine bay (and under the car) with the hose and see if you can pin point it....

    then take a couple of photos of where the sound is coming from and post em up

    Find the problem first mate, otherwise you'll find that a lot of money can be spent for nothing.

    Sound advice from above, just try to narrow down the sound, ie where it's coming from and the solution should be pretty quick and easy. Hopefully.

    I had a similar problem and found that tightening the manifold bolts (when the car is cold) magically fixed the problem. I have to do it again every now and then (4-6 months) when I can hear the ticking has come back. I hope that helps.
